The Discovery Tech team helps customers discover and engage with new, popular and relevant products across Amazon worldwide. We do this by combining technology, science, innovation and creativity to build new customer-facing features and experiences alongside tools for marketers. You will be responsible for creating and building critical services that automatically generate, target, and optimize Amazon's cross-category marketing and merchandising. Through the enablement of intelligent marketing campaigns that leverage machine-learning models, you will help to deliver the best possible shopping experience for Amazon's customers all over the globe.

We're seeking an experienced Principal Product Manager (Technical) to lead new monetization initiatives across Amazon's marketing and advertising placements. This role will drive the strategy and execution of innovative advertising solutions that create value for vendors, sellers, and customers while delivering significant business impact. You will work backwards from the customers to lead, design, architect, and implement large, critical technical solutions to make a profound impact for our customers. You will play a key role in driving the strategy, vision, roadmap and opportunities to scale, working closely with software engineers, applied scientists, business stakeholders and partner teams such as retail Category teams, the Personalization team and Amazon Advertising. You will have a high degree of ownership over critical features and the customer experience, leading projects involving distributed systems, web development, front-end/back-end design, and more.

You are a strong leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly and who has a track record of building strong teams that deliver results. You have a strong sense of ownership, passion to provide great customer experience and excellent troubleshooting skills even when in high-pressure situations. We need someone who is eager to grow with us and is passionate about driving clarity in highly ambiguous product and technical environments, and has a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment.

A successful candidate will have a strong sense of ownership, great judgement, be highly analytical, able to work effectively in a matrixed organization, and adept at synthesizing a variety of technologies and capabilities into products and applications that customers love. The ideal candidate for this role will be customer-obsessed with the capability to dive in and learn new technologies fast and who is comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; will be a creative and an analytical problem solver. Experience with e-Commerce, branded marketing and/or advertising products will be applicable and helpful.

Key job responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include
\tLead the vision and strategy for new monetized placements with Advertising and Retail
\tDrive the development of new sponsored experiences across key shopping surfaces
\tOwn the experimentation roadmap for new advertising placements and sponsored events
\tOwning strategic planning to achieve business objectives and define product vision, experimentation roadmap, and comprehensive balanced KPIs to measure impact and progress.
\tMentoring individual contributors, ensuring organizational health and career development within your organization
\tWorking closely with software managers, engineers, scientists, and business stakeholders across different teams on a daily basis to define system architecture, elaborate user stories and discuss business and technical trade-offs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 7+ years of technical product or program management experience

- Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition

- Bachelor's degree in engineering, statistics, computer science, operations research, business analytics, information systems or equivalent

- Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product

- Experience as a strong leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly and effectively influence across cross-functional teams

- Experience leading engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience working directly with Engineers on product enhancements

- Experience in project management methodologies, business analysis, or process improvement

- Experience leading cross-organizational programs and setting and holding teams and individuals to timelines and deliverables without explicit authority

- Experience working with and influencing senior level stakeholders

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $161,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $279,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
