What You'll Do in This Position
The responsibilities of the Principal Procedure Writer include:
Draft and route procedures through electronic procedure system, including procedure forms.
Procedure Professional Association (PPA) certification or able to attain.
Communicate with manual owners and SMEs to address comments and move procedures through review process.
Become familiar with Manual 2S, 1.1 and 1.3 and PS-TS-AP-4005 to quality check procedures and issue procedures.
Knowledge of the Assisted Hazard Analysis (AHA) database and process.
Provide issued procedures notifications to facility.
Mentor and train new writers in group.
Perform DC/RO reviews of procedures, as needed.
Work on procedure projects as lead or part of team to maintain schedule adherence.
Coordinate and implement programs for the preparation, design, use, and control of policies and procedures. Coordinate and
support the preparation, development and writing of new or revised procedures or procedures for complex systems within
the framework of the functional areas or division assigned. Coordinate and support the Drafting and revision of
administrative, operating, laboratory, maintenance procedures, descriptive manuals, data sheets, sketches and other
documents to enable personnel to safely and correctly operate and repair process systems and equipment.
Safety is a primary responsibility in each job performed. Obtain safety training, obey safety rules. and make safety an integral part of
each task. Take the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or will create an unsafe conditions.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required for assigned work area.
Ensure procedures are developed, reviewed, approved, and distributed to appropriate personnel in accordance with the
established review and approval process cycle. Conduct physical walkdown of the system or facility location where
appropriate.
Maintain company-level policy and procedures, which includes identifying, developing and implementing new policies and
procedures, evaluating whether procedures are company-level or program-specific, reviewing and editing policies and
procedures for content and format, coordinating production, and issuance of company-level policies and procedures.
Participate in and support the development of tools for improving the usefulness of and access to facility and company-level
policy and/or procedures. This would include the development and improvement of the policy/procedure format and
structure, maintenance of the WSRC electronic procedure system, facilitating comment resolutions and approvals, and
evaluating the appropriateness of requests for new company-level policies and procedures.
Provide guidance to less-senior members of department. Act as manager of group in manager's absence.
In the Savannah River Tritium Enterprise (SRTE) Procedure Group, some positions are shift positions. These positions are
required to be manned 24/7 and are on a 12-hour rotating shift. In the event the posting is for a shift procedure writer, the
posting will state this information.
Qualifications We Desire
Bachelors degree preferred.
Experience in procedure development, procedure management, operations, maintenance, laboratory, technical writing and editing, work planning, configuration management, or training preferred.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of process fundamentals and plant systems and a complete knowledge of computer software required to generate procedures, correspondence, and database changes.
Advanced knowledge of administrative documents pertaining to procedure development and a comprehensive knowledge of procedure writing fundamentals.
Advanced knowledge of established safety practices (OSHA, EPA, state regulations, radiation control, waste acceptance, and quality control).
Procedures Professional Association (PPA) Procedure Writer Certification is preferred.
RAD Worker I or RAD Worker II qualification may be required.
