Bering Strait School District is accepting applications for a Principal position at the Shishmaref School in the community of Shishmaref for the 2024-25 school year. We are beginning to do interviews by video conference and other means.

Being comfortable using technology to track student progress, and to prepare documentation would be a significant advantage. BSSD utilizes a comprehensive web database for tracking student progress called PowerSchool, technology is used for most day-to-day tasks. JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A current Alaska Type T Teaching Certificate and a Type B Administrative Certificate.
2. Minimum of three years experience as a school administrator and/or teacher.
3. A Masters Degree in Educational Administration preferred.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent as School Board may deem appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for the implementation of observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students.
2. Responsible for maintaining positive school and district relation and image within the village.
3. Responsible for maintaining a close school and district relationship within the village AEC.
4. Determine the need for, develop and evaluate student activities according to district policy.
5. Select programs of study that will best serve the needs of the community that will also comply with established district policies.
6. Delegation of appropriate responsibilities to staff within the unit in such a manner that the total program operates effectively and efficiently.
7. Maintain high standards of students conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process for the rights of students and staff.
8. Insure that proper pupil personnel records are kept accurate and up-to-date.
9. Develop a student's handbook pursuant to district policy.
10. Administer grant funds according to regulation and district guidelines.
11. Manage school funds and the school budget accordingly in accepted accounting practice and district guidelines.
12. Recommend appropriate classified staff for hire, designates duties and evaluates classified staff toward improvement of school operation.
13. Insure that building grounds and equipment are maintained in a proper state of repair, safety and cleanliness.
14. Notify the District of misuse, neglect, needed repairs or required alterations.
15. Assist staff with professional training and staff development needs.
16. Maintain an up-to-date inventory of instructional materials and school equipment
17. Develop an understanding of various program funding sources.
18. Conduct teacher evaluation process as prescribed in negotiated agreement.
19. Keep the Superintendent informed of pertinent school problems and activities.
20. Supervises all personnel serving and/or attending assigned school.
21. Supervises all instructional program components, operation of school plant and all school activities.
20. Other duties as assigned.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
SALARY: Placement on Administrator's Salary Schedule.
LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: 200 days
