We are seeking a Principal Industrial Engineer to lead process optimization efforts and drive operational excellence across our production environment. In this position, you will be supporting the Operations organization and often collaborating with different enabling functions and business units within the Strategic Space Systems Division. Day-to-day responsibilities will be determined by the division's strategic priorities and will encompass a blend of hands-on production support activities and data oriented, analytical tasks. This role focuses on improving manufacturing systems through data-driven strategies and cross-functional collaboration to support program objectives and organizational goals. This role is located in Redondo, CA.

Responsibilities
Re-engineer shop floor processes and management systems to increase efficiency, reduce costs, prevent manufacturing defects, and optimize production schedules.
Lead cross-functional process improvement initiatives by defining project scope, identifying risks, calculating ROI, and ensuring sustainable results using Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., Kaizen, rapid improvement events).
Analyze, plan, and ensure effective utilization of labor, facilities, equipment, and tooling to support program delivery and cost objectives.
Conduct evaluations and provide recommendations for the acquisition, maintenance, and enhancement of capital assets and equipment.
Create digital models and discrete-event simulations (e.g., Simio, FlexSim) of manufacturing processes to identify capacity constraints and operational inefficiencies.
Perform capacity and staffing analyses to optimize manufacturing line performance.
Track and report manufacturing KPIs to assess the effectiveness of process changes and ensure performance targets are met.
Utilize shop floor production systems (e.g., Solumina, Manufacturo, SAP PEO) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP S/4) for planning, labor tracking, MRP, and cost accounting.
Design efficient layouts of equipment and workspace to support streamlined production processes.
Act as a liaison across functional teams to develop and implement innovative solutions that reduce inefficiencies across siloed departments.
Train and guide shop floor personnel and peers in process improvements, tool usage, and system changes.

Basic Qualifications

Level 3
Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 5+ years of engineering or manufacturing experience OR Master's degree with 3+ years of experience.
Experience analyzing and resolving manufacturing process issues using root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.
Proficient in process mapping and visualization tools (e.g., Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, Miro).
Experience with ERP systems, including material planning, labor tracking, and cost reporting (e.g., SAP S/4, Odoo).
Familiarity with shop floor production systems (e.g., SAP PEO, Solumina).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in training and collaborating with shop floor stakeholders.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance or SCI access.
Level 4
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 6 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 4 years related engineering experience

Proficient in process mapping and visualization tools (e.g., Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart, Miro).
Experience with ERP systems, including material planning, labor tracking, and cost reporting (e.g., SAP S/4, Odoo).
Familiarity with shop floor production systems (e.g., SAP PEO, Solumina).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in training and collaborating with shop floor stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
Current active DoD Top Secret clearance or SCI access.
Experience operating within Earned Value Management (EVM) environments.
Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
Experience preparing database queries using SQL frameworks (e.g., Microsoft T-SQL, Oracle PL/SQL).
Experience accessing and querying data via SAP Fiori or SAP HANA.
Experience designing and implementing simulation models using tools such as Simio, Plant Simulation, FlexSim, or Synchrono.

Salary Range: $130,300.00 - $150,500.00Salary Range 2: $124,900.00 - $187,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
