Description

The Information Technology Principal Systems Administrator proactively manages the delivery of services via the Douglas County computing environments in a cost effective and reliable manner and has primary responsibility for multiple overarching technologies or service management disciplines. This position works under general direction from an Information Technology Manager.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)
  • Maintain, operate and plan the enterprise technical systems including, but not limited to, network servers, data storage services, cloud-based solutions, network operating systems, enterprise imaging, email systems, data backup and recovery systems and data access security
  • Formulating and communicating functional and technical designs of enterprise IT systems
  • Resolution of complex incidents and problems
  • Aids in troubleshooting escalated issues related to system failures and problems
  • Establishing and documenting processes, best practices, policies and procedures
  • Responsible for service management disciplines (i.e. capacity management, availability management, change/configuration management, security management)
  • Audit systems and assess their outcomes
  • Creation of roadmaps and strategic plans
  • Manage budget and ensure cost effectiveness
  • Participates as part of an on-call hierarchy with other skilled support staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position receives administrative supervision by an IT Manager and performs routine duties without close supervision. Refers issues outside of routine duties to the IT Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for direct supervision, the mentoring and coordination of staff members within the Douglas County Information Technology Systems Administration Division.

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT: Work is performed independently. Incumbent must be able to use individual judgment and problem-solving skills to accomplish goals and achieve desired results.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • BS in Computer Science, MIS or similar field required or training and/or certifications in principle technologies. Sufficient experience, especially in managing a complex, distributed operational environment, may be substituted for degree or certification.
  • 10+ years progressive experience in Systems Administration, Database Administration, and/or Networking.
  • Proven working experience as an IT systems administrator in Cloud and On-Premise environments
  • Organized, possessing excellent time management skills
  • Ability to generate innovative approaches and solutions to problems
  • Possess excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Experience mentoring/developing staff
  • Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware/software systems in Cloud and On-Premise environments

  • Experience with endpoint patching through SCCM and Intune
  • Demonstrated capabilities in scripting, including power shell and other scripting functions.
  • Capability to troubleshoot complex issues related to Microsoft systems and interactions with non-Microsoft systems.
  • Capability to manage Windows server operating systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical projects.
  • Strong skills in Windows Desktop Operating Systems (OS) and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Windows OS and application deployment using SCCM, Intune and Auto Pilot.
  • Strong understanding of installation and use of common desktop applications such as Microsoft office and Adobe
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Windows and Office update Channels
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair PC hardware issues.
  • Strong Skills with Mobile device management and mobile operating systems such as iOS and Android
  • Familiarity with Audio visual systems such as Crestron a plus
  • Familiarity with the ITIL framework

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.
