Position Summary

Glenbard South High School, which opened in 1972, is one of the Glenbard Township High School District 87's four comprehensive high schools. Glenbard South serves the Chicago suburban communities of Glen Ellyn, Lombard and Wheaton.

The Glenbard High School District 87 Board of Education is seeking an educational leader who will assist in the implementation of the Glenbard Profile of a Graduate. The Principal must be an instructional leader who can communicate complex issues so that all stakeholders understand the "why" for implementing organizational change. The Principal is responsible for: the attainment of school goals; the implementation of high leverage instructional practices that empower teachers to maximize student attainment; embracing the diverse student population and promoting the eradication of implicit bias in institutional systems; and building positive relationships with all stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Professional Educator License with a Principal or General Administrative Endorsement
  • Designation as a Teacher Evaluator, as well as Evaluator for Assistant Principal(s)
  • A minimum of 5 years of successful administrative experience in addition to a minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience
  • Must have evaluated teachers utilizing the Danielson framework
  • Experience utilizing technology in the learning environment, preferred
  • Experience with the PLC model, preferred
  • Doctorate, preferred


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct all aspects of the instructional program.
  • Supervise Licensed and Classified staff.
  • Improve instruction by directing in-service training and staff development.
  • Directing the evaluations of licensed staff.
  • Supervise the function of the Instructional Council.
  • Interpret and promote the school to parents and community stakeholders.
  • Encourage and facilitate appropriate school visitations by parents and interested citizens.
  • Take an active interest in appropriate community service organizations.
  • Regularly advise the Superintendent of the progress, conditions and needs of the school.
  • Prepare and submit a proposed budget outlining the staff and material resources necessary to implement the desired school programs.
  • Direct the recruitment, selection, retention, evaluation and assignment of licensed staff.
  • Assign teaching duties in compliance with all district, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Provide orientation of new teachers.
  • Take an active interest in local, state and national professional organizations and promote the professional
  • improvement of the staff.
  • Plan and implement the scheduling process.
  • Utilize other governmental resources to insure the safety and/or welfare of a student and/or staff.
  • Duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as correspondence, surveys and electronic media.
  • Ability to write professional communications.
  • Ability to present information effectively and to respond to questions from individuals and groups
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form
  • Ability to complete mathematical operations and apply concepts of basic mathematics
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to maintain current job skills as directed, especially in technology-related activities
  • Ability to perform essential duties with an awareness of school district requirements and School Board policies

  • Work is usually conducted at one job site, however, on occasion, this employee will be required to attend meetings, conferences, or workshops and events at other sites as assigned.
