Job Description

Primary Function of the Position

With your passion for patient care, your systematic background, and your understanding of the application of physiology, you work to make the 'art' of surgery objective. We are looking for someone with the ability to keenly observe the surgical environment, quickly absorb relevant information, and diligently execute iterative assessments and design validations to drive product development. Efficient and effective communication skills are required to weave between working with the technology and those that both use and design it.

Essential Job Duties
  • Define and drive key research projects with the goal of contributing to the development of new products or improvement of existing ones. Projects are typically related to the characterization of complex tissue interactions in translational models to inform product design and associated performance requirements
  • With an understanding of complex product designs and component interactions, specify devices, materials selections, and design features to effectively implement new concepts and technologies
  • Support product development teams by providing technical expertise during problem solving and brainstorming exercises
  • Develop, drive and contribute to intellectual property filings for novel clinical applications and technologies
  • Keep Intuitive's vision and values at the forefront of decision making


Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience
  • Work with key opinion leaders, subject matter experts, physicians, and other collaborators to identify goals and translate those needs for user-centric design and development of new instruments.
  • Support clinical risk documentation, pre-clinical test strategy and execution, and regulatory submissions for new products
  • Work through difficult and unique problems. Achieve sound results within challenging constraints. Influence teams on high-impact project decision making
  • Positively collaborate at all levels of the organization. Able to convincingly provide responses when questioned on topics relevant to scope of work in ways that generate understanding and confidence
  • Exceptional sense of shared responsibility and shared reward /success with peers from all teams
  • Design experience on multiple product solutions that have made it to market in the med device space

Required Education and Training
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in medical device industry with a Bachelor's degree, 12 years experience with a Master's degree, or 8 years with a PhD degree; or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with surgeons in an operating room environment
  • Fluent in surgical terminology and sound knowledge of anatomy Working Conditions
    • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time, internationally and domestic

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience with surgical devices that generate pressure greater than 8g/mm2 on tissue
  • Experience with devices that interact with tissue through electrical energy
  • Engagement with survivability studies
