Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Chief Legal Counsel and an Attorney Supervisor in the Department of Administration's (DOA) Division of Legal Services (DLS), this Project Attorney will function as agency staff counsel, and will provide general legal counsel and legal services to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Assistant Deputy Secretary, Division Administrators, and other department managers regarding DOA's data privacy initiatives in the areas of data privacy law, electronic records management, data governance/classification, artificial intelligence (AI), and regulatory compliance. Along with other DLS attorneys and key leaders in DOA's Division of Enterprise Technology (DET), the incumbent may also be expected to provide legal counsel related to other information technology (IT)-related privacy issues.
As directed, the Project Attorney will be expected to assist relevant personnel to implement emerging privacy laws, standards, policies, processes, procedures, employee training and awareness, and best practices for DOA. A major component of that work will be conducting privacy threshold assessments (PTAs) and privacy impact assessments (PIAs) as part of DOA's data classification and technology acquisition efforts. As directed, the Project Attorney may also be responsible for researching other legal issues related to privacy, or recommending any needed statutory, administrative rule, and DOA policy changes related to privacy.

Salary Information
This classification is assigned to pay schedule/range 09-75. Starting pay rate will be between $47.74 per hour and $56.37 per hour depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits .
Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.
Job Details
Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. DOA does not sponsor work visas. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.
All employees are expected to live and work in Wisconsin. Certain positions may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit.
