Job Description

The Product Development Engineer will lead the design and development of new products within the filter department. This role involves creating prototypes and test plans using methodologies such as DVP&R. The engineer will build concepts and establish processes for product assembly, with project durations ranging from 6 months to 2 years.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of new products in the filter department.
  • Create prototypes and test plans using methodologies such as DVP&R.
  • Design fixtures in SolidWorks and collaborate with experienced CAD Designer to ensure performance specifications and tolerance stack-ups are met.
  • Set up and revise assembly processes based on ongoing performance.
  • Operate with a Lean Manufacturing mindset.
  • Develop and run testing and create concepts using 3D printers and ultrasonic welding.
  • Communicate with production personnel to ensure they understand the assembly process.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure components are designed and manufactured within product requirements, including occasional travel to suppliers.
  • Run trials and analyze data using statistical techniques such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Gage R&R, and debrief the data with the team.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of product development experience, including leading projects from concept design to production process creation.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for fixture design.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and the ability to analyze and discuss data.
  • Experience in product design, hydraulics, pneumatics, ultrasonic welding, 3D printing, plastics manufacturing, rubber manufacturing, polyurethane, and machine building.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with MS Office, particularly Excel and Gantt charts.
  • Understanding of fluid dynamics.
Work Environment

This is an on-site role, primarily working in a prototyping lab or workshop (75% of the time). The remaining time will be spent in an office setting. The role reports to a manager based in the UK, with day-to-day management by a Principal Scientist on-site. Collaboration with other scientists and maintenance personnel is required. Occasional travel to injection molders and the main customer in Baltimore may be necessary, up to 3 weeks per year. Flexible starting hours between 6-9 am, with a 9/80 schedule allowing for every other Friday off. The role includes 2 weeks of vacation and 10 paid holidays.
Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.26 - $49.04/hr.
