What you'll be doing:
In this role, you will lead the development of complete design packages, ensuring seamless transitions from customer orders through to manufacturing and installation. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Creating and managing project timelines and budgets, while serving as the technical expert during cross-functional collaborations.
- Developing comprehensive design packages that include both original designs and adaptations of existing standards, and utilizing 2D and 3D CAD software to produce detailed shop drawings and installation instructions.
- Providing training and troubleshooting support for technical issues, both in-house and on-site with customers.
- Ensuring all engineered products conform to UL, state, and national code requirements, while maintaining an up-to-date departmental library of regulatory standards.
- Crafting detailed work instructions and troubleshooting documentation to support production processes.
- Providing guidance to a talented team of engineers, CAD technicians, and engineering interns, guiding them to produce efficient and cost-effective designs.
- Conducting performance reviews, participating in the hiring process, and making decisions regarding departmental staffing.
- Analyzing cost reduction ideas and ensuring manufacturability during the design phase.
What We're Looking For:
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Applied Sciences.
- 8 to 15 years of experience in mechanical design, with proficiency in classical and numerical methods for solving engineering challenges.
- Expertise in mechanical drawing, design, geometric tolerancing, and familiarity with CAD and Inventor.
- Experience with FEA stress analysis, particularly in evaluating fatigue, shock, vibration, and wind load.
- Knowledge of general manufacturing methods and processes, including thermoformed plastics, aluminum, and steel fabrication.
- Knowledge of structural steel and aluminum welding, along with sheet metal bending experience.
