Team Introduction:
The TikTok Product - Privacy and Responsibility organization builds industry-leading solutions in user privacy, minor protection, transparency, and social responsibility. Our Transparency and Responsibility team is specifically focused on fostering trust through clear and accessible information about how our platform operates. We are dedicated to building innovative features that empower users and external stakeholders with insights into our content moderation, recommendation systems, and research practices, ensuring a safe, trustworthy, and enjoyable platform for our global community.
Responsibilities:
As a Product Manager on the Transparency and Responsibility team, with a specific focus on Researcher Transparency, you will be responsible for developing and executing the product strategy for enhancing trust and understanding of TikTok's research practices. This includes a strong emphasis on the TikTok Research API, secure clean room environments, and Responsible AI initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for features and initiatives focused on researcher transparency, particularly concerning the TikTok Research API and secure clean room environments.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (engineering, research science, legal, policy, communications) to define requirements, design solutions, and oversee the development and launch of researcher-facing transparency tools and resources.
- Drive the evolution and adoption of the TikTok Research API, ensuring it provides valuable and privacy-preserving data access for legitimate academic and non-profit research purposes.
- Define and manage the product strategy for secure clean room environments, enabling researchers to analyze TikTok data in a controlled and privacy-protective manner.
- Champion the needs of the research community while balancing user privacy and platform integrity in all transparency initiatives.
- Develop metrics and analyze the adoption and impact of researcher transparency features, using data to identify areas for improvement and innovation.
- Stay informed about the latest research in transparency, responsible AI, and data access, and translate these insights into actionable product strategies.
- Communicate the value and progress of researcher transparency initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in product management, with a proven track record of building and launching successful products or platforms, ideally with experience related to data access, APIs, or research tools.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse, global teams, including technical and research-oriented stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience using data to inform product decisions and measure the impact of transparency initiatives.
- A strong understanding of the principles of transparency, privacy, and responsible data handling.
- Passion for empowering researchers and fostering trust through transparent access to platform data in a responsible manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with or building developer platforms, APIs, or data analytics tools.
- Familiarity with academic research practices and the needs of researchers working with social media data.
- Understanding of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and their implications for data access and transparency.
- Experience working on Responsible AI initiatives or a strong understanding of the ethical considerations related to AI development and deployment.
- Experience conducting user research with technical users or researchers and incorporating their feedback into product development.
- Familiarity with secure computing environments or clean room technologies.

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $150000 - $250000 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
