Description:

Canterbury is seeking a full-time, permanent, and highly motivated Production Manager with a passion for leadership and a proven track record in manufacturing and production operations to lead the Manufacturing team at our Richmond Roastery.

As part of the Manufacturing Management team, you will ensure consistent and timely administration of productions operational process and procedures and provide general operational direction to staff. This includes overseeing all roasting and packaging activities, as well as providing leadership in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety, and food safety to ensure that the roastery operates efficiently and produces high-quality coffee products. You will also lead the day-to-day activities of all production floor staff, offering motivation, support, and guidance while fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Managing the day-to-day production operations, including the roasting, blending, and packaging of coffee beans
  • Leading pre-shift meetings and being responsible for the daily delegation and assignment of employee duties
  • Overseeing the management of production planning activities
  • Contributing to the development of operational goals and annual targets focused on accuracy and safety improvement to support growth and enhance engagement
  • Engaging in regular communication with Manufacturing leadership and management, exchanging feedback, providing updates, and sharing challenges and opportunities
  • Maintaining knowledge of and compliance with all company SQF, HACCP, GMP, health and safety regulations, and company rules and guidelines
  • Partnering with the QA Coordinator to ensure adherence to and attainment of all food safety and quality policies and targets
  • Coordinating roastery sanitation activities in accordance with specific policies and procedures
  • Creating and publishing staff schedules, tracking attendance, reviewing timesheets, and ensuring the timely submission of data to Payroll while managing employee time-off requests using the HRIS platform ADP
  • Fostering a collaborative and positive work environment that promotes accountability, teamwork, and creativity


You have:
  • 7+ years of experience in food and beverage manufacturing
  • 5+ years of experience in coffee roasting and packaging would be an asset
  • 3+ years of team supervision or management
  • Experience in GFSI and SQF or equivalent manufacturing environments
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Food Science, Agricultural Science, Business Management, or a combination relevant experience and training
  • A working knowledge of and familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements
  • Exposure to, or familiarity with, Lean Manufacturing techniques and process (Kanban, Gemba walks)
  • HACCP and GMP training
  • Experience using an HRIS system for employee needs (ADP experience is considered an asset)
