Position Summary:
The Professional Civil Engineer position is located in Topeka, KS within the Bureau of Structures and Geotechnical Services with the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
The Professional Civil Engineer is the direct support of the Bridge Preservation Engineer. They would assist in the administrative duties of the Bridge Inspection Section. Coordinates and communicates with others in KDOT, state and federal agencies, consultants, fabricators, contractors, and the public. The Professional Civil Engineer would directly supervise the Routine Bridge Inspection group. In addition, they would train personnel to ensure that all inspection reports are accurate, timely and that all required recommendations are reported and in the best interest of the Department.

Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) accredited engineering school.
Licensing & Certificate
Valid Driver's License
Professional Engineers License recognized by the State of Kansas
Minimum Qualifications
A minimum of 4 years' experience in engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
Six years of Professional experience, with four years of bridge inspection experience, and one year of supervisory experience preferable.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to interpret and utilize civil engineering plans, reports, and calculations. Knowledge of bridge structural analysis and design, hydraulics and hydrology, foundation design, surveying, geometric design, topography, and computer functions. Knowledge of the safety aspect of diving, and knowledge in sonic inspection equipment.
Management and supervision skills. Good verbal and written communication skills.
Post-Offer/Pre-employment Requirements
Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate required in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03.
