The Department of Film, Media, and Communications at Wheaton College is seeking applicants for a Professor of the Practice of Film and Digital Media, starting in Fall 2025. The successful candidate for this full-time teaching position will teach foundational courses in Film and Media Production as well as higher-level courses in their area of expertise. Candidates with experience in any of these areas are welcome to apply: filmmaking, video production, motion graphics, visual effects, virtual production, online short form video, or sound design.

Wheaton's Film, Media, and Communications department consists of five full-time, student-centered faculty with expertise as scholars and practitioners. It is committed to creating an innovative, inclusive learning community that values combining theory, creative practice, and critical application in the fields of film, media, and communications.

The primary responsibility will be to teach undergraduate courses that support the Film and New Media Studies and Digital Media and Communications majors. The teaching load for this position is three courses per semester. The courses may include Production I, Production II, Digital Editing, and courses in the candidate's area of expertise.

Professors of Practice are full-time teaching faculty with expertise and achievements in a particular field of instruction. Professors of Practice are expected to advise students and provide service to the department and/or College. Professors of Practice receive funding to support conference attendance and professional development.
Professors of Practice receive initial one-year contracts, become eligible for a two-year contract after their second year, and can seek promotion to Senior Professor of Practice and ongoing three-year contracts after their fourth year.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A MA with strong teaching or professional experience or MFA degree is required at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidates will have the ability to teach courses such as Production I, Production II, Digital Editing, and in subject areas that enhance student ability to succeed in creative industries, such as film, television, online video, and videogames.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience.
