Job Summary:
The Project Controls Analyst - BI will be an individual contributor responsible for leveraging their strong analytical skills and expertise in Business Intelligence (BI) tools, particularly Microsoft Power BI, to transform project controls data into insightful and actionable reports and dashboards. This role will focus on utilizing existing and new data sources to create compelling visualizations, perform in-depth data analysis, and effectively communicate findings to project teams and leadership. The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in Power BI, Excel, DAX, and M-Language, coupled with a solid understanding of project controls principles.

Job Summary:
The Project Controls Analyst - BI will be an individual contributor responsible for leveraging their strong analytical skills and expertise in Business Intelligence (BI) tools, particularly Microsoft Power BI, to transform project controls data into insightful and actionable reports and dashboards. This role will focus on utilizing existing and new data sources to create compelling visualizations, perform in-depth data analysis, and effectively communicate findings to project teams and leadership. The ideal candidate will possess proficiency in Power BI, Excel, DAX, and M-Language, coupled with a solid understanding of project controls principles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Power BI Dashboard and Report Development: Design, develop, and maintain interactive and dynamic dashboards and reports in Power BI to visualize key project controls metrics (e.g., cost, schedule, progress, earned value).
- Data Integration and Transformation: Connect to and integrate data from various project controls systems and data sources (e.g., databases, Excel, cloud services, project management software APIs). Utilize Power Query (M-Language) to clean, transform, and model data for optimal Power BI performance.
- Data Analysis and Interpretation: Conduct thorough analysis of project data to identify trends, anomalies, and correlations. Interpret findings and translate complex data into clear, concise, and visually appealing reports and dashboards.
- DAX Calculation and Optimization: Develop and implement calculations and measures using DAX to provide insightful metrics and KPIs within Power BI reports. Optimize DAX queries for performance and efficiency.
- Data Validation and Quality Assurance: Obtain and review data from various sources to identify discrepancies and ensure data accuracy and integrity within Power BI solutions.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with project managers, project controls team members, and senior leadership to understand reporting requirements and deliver solutions that meet their needs. Effectively communicate data insights and findings through reports and presentations.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest Power BI features and best practices, and proactively identify opportunities to enhance existing reports and develop new analytical tools.
- Documentation: Create and maintain clear documentation for Power BI reports, data models, and processes.
Qualifications:
- Power BI Proficiency: Strong and demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including advanced visualization techniques, data modeling, and report development.
- DAX Knowledge: Well-developed knowledge and practical experience in writing and optimizing DAX queries for calculations and measures.
- M-Language (Power Query) Knowledge: Well-developed knowledge and practical experience in using M-Language to connect to, transform, and shape data from various sources.
- Excel Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data manipulation, formulas, and charting.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and identify meaningful insights.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Project Controls Fundamentals: A solid understanding of project controls principles, including cost control, scheduling, and performance management.
- Data Integration Concepts: Familiarity with different data integration methods and technologies.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in data analysis with a strong focus on Business Intelligence and data visualization, with significant hands-on experience using Microsoft Power BI.
- Experience working with project-related data is highly desirable.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
