GRANT SUMMARY

The goal of Project Forward is to reduce incidences of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) veteran suicide and suicidal ideation in the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB). The long-term community goal is to meet the health, social services, and well-being of AI/AN veterans in the FNSB. The project will provide a full continuum of culturally resonant suicide prevention, intervention, treatment, and support services.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Project Forward project, performing general management functions including project planning and development, personnel management, and assisting with or performing budgeting and procurement of funds management. This position is responsible for ensuring the development and implementation of the project strategies of Community Awareness/Mobilization, Screening and Referral, Assessment, Suicide-Focused Treatment, Case Management, and Support Services.

JOB DUTIES
  • Establishes self as a point of contact for the Administration for Native Americans (ANA).
  • Ensures project services provide Trauma Informed Care (TIC) based on the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Framework for Trauma using a Trauma-Informed Approach.
  • Implements Non-Demand Caring Contacts prevention and support services based on the US Department of Veterans Affairs Communities of Care model.
  • Ensures all grant requirements are met by overseeing contract deliverables with responsibility for achieving project goals and objectives.
  • Oversees daily operations of project duties, goals, and objectives in a timely manner.
  • Monitors project budget.
  • Ensures performance improvement and quality management by participating in continuous quality improvement and data-driven decision-making processes to assess program efficacy and drive quality improvements.
  • Ensures adherence to data collection requirements.
  • Develops continuation grants.
  • Develops all grant reports per ANA requirements and submits them to program management before submission to the granting agency.
  • Meets with the Project Evaluator quarterly while overseeing quality assurance.
  • Attends ANA grantee meetings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
  • Ability to report to work in a timely manner.
  • Above average skills in operating/using computers and using Windows, Word, and Excel with the ability to accurately input information into reporting formats.
  • Above average communication and people skills with the ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge of how to best assist possible escalated individuals during the data collection process.
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles, with demonstrated experience working effectively with Alaska Native populations.
  • Ability to protect confidentiality is essential; HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) & 42 CFR compliant.
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret/understand billing procedures.
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting their deadlines.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to work independently and with teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral health or related field.
  • One (1) year of experience involving program/project management.
  • One (1) year of experience working in behavioral health.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with AN/AI population and experience providing culturally specific services.
  • A combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for degree requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Experience working with veterans.
  • Master's degree in behavioral health or related field.
