The Project Electrical Engineer is responsible for the project execution, calculation, and design of engineering projects. The Project Electrical Engineer gathers/analyzes technical data to prepare detailed engineering designs and drawings and is charged with monitoring and coordinating the technical deliverables required for client projects. The Project Engineer is responsible for and oversees the technical work of one or more Staff Engineers and/or Engineers (I), delegates work appropriately to engineering team members, and is highly involved in the QA and QC of calculations, drafts and designs. Additionally, the Project Electrical Engineer acts as the liaison between the Project Manager and other project team members, relaying all important and relevant project information in an effective manner.

The Engineer at this level is comfortable working cross-functionally, has the ability to coordinate with others on larger, multidiscipline project, and is proficient in standard project management methodologies and techniques. The Project Engineer may accompany the Project Manager on site visits and meetings with clients, and participate in proposal writing (RFP's), setting up project scopes, defining deliverables, monitoring schedules and budget costs. The Project Electrical Engineer will be asked to provide recommendations and feedback to clients regularly.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for designs, CAD drawings, and specifications on assigned projects, under the guidance/direction of Project Manager / Director
  • Works with other engineers on a project team, maintaining effective communication with project team members, other departments, contractors, suppliers, and clients
  • Coordinates with drafters, designers, and staff engineers within project team
  • Accountable for design calculations and plan development
  • Completes drawings/project responsibilities within scope, budget, and schedule; reviews drawings for completeness, accuracy, and constructability
  • In partnership with senior engineers, oversee that the project is constructed and documented in accordance with the contract documents and proper engineering practices
  • Develops conceptual and basic engineering documents including studies, design criteria, equipment specifications, etc.
  • Utilizes computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks
  • Performs field work by obtaining field information, checking installations, problem solving, maintenance and repair of equipment and systems
  • Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly
  • Other duties as assigned

Professional Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited institution required (discipline in Electrical Engineering)
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in design power engineering in the Commercial and/or Industrial market
  • Design experience in Mission Critical Facilities a plus
  • Solar design experience a plus
  • 1-5 years of experience managing projects using established project management disciplines and methodologies
  • Solid understanding of project controls and change management process
  • Knowledge of discipline code and common construction practices
  • Working knowledge of computer-aided design software and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering required (i.e. AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Physical Demands

Sedentary work: exerting up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer (fine motor skills, visual acuity) and frequent use of telephone (talking, hearing).

Working Conditions

The worker is required to occasionally work in the field and may be exposed to outside weather conditions. Additional environmental conditions may vary by job site.

  • 10% travel (i.e. job sites) may be required based upon business need
