Job Summary:

Local Bounti is revolutionizing the way fresh, sustainable produce is grown and delivered. We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Project Engineer II to join our innovative team. This intermediate-level position is responsible for performing engineering design evaluations and managing projects with moderate complexity. The ideal candidate is someone who takes initiative and enjoys getting involved to help resolve issues as they arise.

The Project Engineer II is part of a capital projects team that designs, engineers, and constructs Local Bounti's innovative hybrid-controlled environment agriculture (CEA) facilities. These facilities include innovative vertical farming technology, greenhouses, hydroponic systems, and produce harvesting and packaging facilities. This team oversees planning and coordinating technical engineering initiatives to make sure they can complete a project within their budget and according to a schedule. Their duties include implementing and updating Local Bounti standards while managing large, engineered equipment specifications, procurement, and installation. The project engineer works to plan projects, establish project criteria, coordinate project reviews, and ensure the proper implementation of project elements.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with management develop, implement, and communicate engineering design and operational plans for multiple, varied projects for completion within budget and schedule constraints.
    • Review equipment and system proposals and plans.
    • Study production process and design, customer requirements, and performance standards to develop project objectives.
    • Develop schedules, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Identify, develop, and gather resources necessary to complete projects, selecting materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors.
  • Control project plans by assessing design, specifications, and plans, scheduling changes, and recommending actions.
  • Measure and monitor project performance and analyze reports using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques to:
    • Identify and manage issues and implement mitigation strategies to resolve operational problems, minimize delays, and keep projects on track.
    • Communicate project statuses regularly with upper management, ensuring key milestones are met.
  • Provide technical support for the engineering process.
  • Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests.
  • Lead and perform engineering tasks associated with a critical or analytical engineering project or a small number of complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas.
  • Maintain product and company reputation by reviewing industry regulations to ensure accuracy, security, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and agency standards.
  • Coordinate and collaborate cross-functionally, with internal and external resources as needed, maintaining Local Bounti's open, positive, and mission-driven culture.
  • Performs assignments while acting independently and will collaborate with multi-discipline teams.
  • Create and maintain appropriate project documentation.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Licensing:
  • Bachelor's or Master of Science in Engineering or other related discipline preferred.
  • EITHER
    • 2 years of solid experience in large engineering-intensive capital project construction, specifically in the controlled environment agriculture (CEA) experience industry,
  • OR
    • 4+ years, or 6+ years without a degree: Solid experience in large engineering-intensive capital project commercial construction, preferably in manufacturing, especially food manufacturing.
  • EIT certification preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
Physical Demands:
