About the job

CORE Electric Cooperative is seeking a Project Manager III to join our Engineering Department, reporting to the System Improvement Manager, located in Sedalia office. This individual will manage projects and coordinate activities related to transmission, substation, and distribution. The Project Manager will collaborate with the consulting engineer, CORE's Engineering and Operations Departments, and contractors to schedule, inspect, and supervise projects. Additionally, they will provide QA/QC review, mentor entry-level PMs, review proposed contracts and construction documents, prepare as-built construction documents, and assess contractor billings. They will represent CORE's interests in all aspects of their work and ensure compliance with current contract standards and specifications.

This is an Exempt onsite position at our Sedalia office, located at 5496 North U.S. Highway 85, Sedalia, CO 80135.

You will...
  • Manage engineering and construction activities for substations, transmission lines, distribution lines, facility relocations and other projects.
  • Practice cost control and monitor expenditures, approve invoices, and change orders, and manage project scopes and schedules.
  • Ensure projects are closed in accordance with procedures in place with GIS, Finance, Purchasing and Operations.
  • Participate in reviewing project designs, studies, submittals, contract award evaluations and material requirements for all projects. Including review for compliance with NESC, RUS and CORE's standards and procedures.
  • Prepare bid documents, participate in pre-bid meetings, evaluate proposals, and provide award recommendations for various engineering and construction contracts.
  • Prepare and oversee contracts with independent contractors, such as consultants, electrical contractors, surveyors, tree trimmers, reclamation firms, and other vendors.
  • Support the permitting and land acquisition activities. Must build relationships with the various entities, understanding and acknowledging changes to the utility accommodation codes and advocating for CORE when changes are proposed to existing codes.
  • Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating department procedures, project design criteria and RFP documents.
  • Mentor other Project Managers and interns.
  • Recommend and implement new or improved engineering standards, practices, or methods.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management, business, information technology or related field. Will consider candidates with equivalent work experience in place of formal educational requirements.
  • Minimum 10 years of project management experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of 115kV or higher transmission permitting, design and construction experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate, train, lead, and influence others.
  • Experience providing work direction to diverse work teams, including Consultants.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, Projects, PowerPoint and with general office equipment.
  • Requires valid Colorado driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
  • A Colorado Professional Engineer's license and PMP Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to use PLS-CADD software to review Consultant models.
  • Experience with transmission design packages and the ability to review Consultant submittals, which would include:
    • Design criteria
    • Permitting documents
    • Construction access maps
    • Pole spotting and construction access
    • Steel pole procurement package
    • Framing drawings and Bill of Materials
    • Issued for Bid package

Salary Range: $131,664 - $175,552.00 annually

This position is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus, subject to individual performance.
