Job Summary

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for analyzing the Company's current buying systems and applying best practices in our day-to-day purchasing operations. Oversees the acquisition of materials, supplies and equipment to support our project needs as well as general supplies for offices and facilities. The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for seeking reliable, vendors/suppliers who can provide quality goods at reasonable prices.

Key Responsibilities

Core responsibilities for the position are as follows:
  • Manage the company's day-to-day purchasing activities and ensure that all purchasing agents are meeting objectives of the Purchasing Department and their personal performance standards.
  • Propose improvements to the current Company's purchasing system increasing efficiencies by enhancing vendor relations that will improve vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, pricing, timelines, to lower the cost of doing business with emphasis on in-time delivery.
  • Assist in developing more effective invoicing and collecting the processes
  • Collaborate with inventory control and sale to develop metrics for gauging inventory level needs and then maintaining those levels throughout the year.
  • Develop and establish methods for measuring and evaluating vendors (price, quality, availability of product, speed of delivery).
  • Take the lead in creating profitable ways to manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset losses.
  • Identify (search and seek out) reliable vendors or suppliers to provide quality goods, supplies and equipment at competitive prices and the most effective, efficient means of delivery.
  • Collaborate regularly with Chief Risk Officer and VP of Finance in the review and acceptance of all vendor agreements to mitigate company risk and exposure to the company.
  • Establish systems and platforms that promote efficient, effective, mobile purchasing across the company in a multi-state and multi-operational environment.
  • Prepare purchase orders, maintain purchasing records and controls to ensure timely close of process.
  • Work closely with branches and departments to identify product and material needs, research make recommendations on best selections/options that meet company quality and pricing needs.
  • Review and research technical specifications of supplies, components, and equipment.
  • Maintain pulse on market trends relative to pricing, availability, and resources.

The position of Purchasing Manager requires the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field; or equivalent years of experience
  • Proven experience in managing purchase function for mid-size business.
  • Excellent financial management skills
  • Attention to detail, good listener, with ability to capture information and convey same information effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory and supply chain management.
  • Experience in negotiating prices and contract review.
  • Ability to apply research and analysis in decision-making.
  • Critical thinker: using logic and reasoning in identifying alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches.
  • Basic computer skills with ability to interpret charts, prepare reports and develop spreadsheets.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to review technical specifications for equipment, parts, and materials.
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish) if that is possible
