Job Description

Specializing in Underground Utility Construction & Excavation, we are seeking an Estimator/Project Manager with an Engineering or Construction Management Degree. In this dual role, you will be responsible for assisting with all facets of the bidding, estimating, and project management process while working in a dynamic family business.
Responsibilities
  • Work in collaboration with the Sr. Project Manager/Estimator and Superintendents on all aspects of the project.
  • Analyze many inputs to determine the time, money, and labor a project needs and its profitability, considering factors like wasted material, bad weather, and delays.
  • Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time, materials, and labor expenses. Estimate the cost and pacing of personnel, equipment, materials, and subcontractors for each project.
  • Plan all projects for efficient use of personnel, equipment, materials, and subcontractors within contract requirements, time guidelines, and other restrictions. Develop the bill of materials as required.
  • Assist with project task scheduling issues. Proactively identify and suggest solutions for known or anticipated construction problems to minimize cost and reduce risk.
  • Negotiate positive resolutions with customers on any disputes that may arise.
  • Participate in assigned contract hand-off and kick-off meetings. Communicate production goals and pacing as bid into the project, in terms of man hours, tracking and billing units, material usage planning, and subcontractor requirements.
  • Provide job-related documentation for field operations, project management staff, and back-office administrative staff as needed.
  • Order and track material needed on the job site.
  • Oversee and manage construction projects, including directing construction activities, resolving construction difficulties, coordinating field installations, schedules, budgets, manpower, and equipment needs.
  • Track quantities and analyze production, manage the delivery of materials, coordinate with subcontractors, and work with project management and clients to ensure compliance with contract, budget, and schedule.
  • Participate in and create meeting minutes for weekly project meetings.
  • Prepare and submit submittals and RFIs for review.
  • Maintain project submittals, change orders, and daily logs.
  • Perform additional Estimator/Project Manager tasks as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in estimating/project management of construction projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed prints and specifications for conceptual, lump sum, or unit pricing and to negotiate pricing as needed.
  • Ability to perform take-offs, compare unit pricing, and solicit subcontractor pricing.
  • General understanding of profit/loss terms such as cost, margin, and fee.
  • Experience in underground utility construction estimating (i.e., water, electric, gas, sewer) is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft computer packages. Experience with computerized bidding software and critical path scheduling software is a plus.
  • Fluency in HeavyBid is a plus.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Underground Utility Experience is highly preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License.
Work Environment

The work hours are from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with the potential to work up to 60 hours per week depending on emergencies. The on-call schedule is posted on smartsheets and can change daily, with primary, secondary, and tertiary crews available. The team consists of 21 people in the field, divided into crews of 3-4 people based on skill level and compatibility. The dress code is suitable for a construction environment, with jeans being acceptable. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $160000.00/yr.
