Basic Function

Serve as a property claim team lead in the Business Units. Investigate, evaluate, and negotiate the highest risk property coverages and damages for homeowner, farm, and commercial risk settlements in compliance with Claims Best Practices and Estimating Guidelines established by the company.

1. Contribute to the financial success of FBL Financial Group by effectively determining if losses are covered under the terms of an existing policy. Project a positive image ofFBLFinancial Groupby fairly and efficiently negotiating and settling claims in compliance with our Claims Best Practices, corporate guidelines, and authority levels.

2. Prioritize and plan activities to manage an inventory of claim's assignments in a manner that meets Claim Best Practices and quality assurance standards.

3. Investigate, document file, determinecoverage, set reserves according to guidelines,andestablish a plan of action to ensure a defensible claim file. Expected handling of very large or complex claims.

4. Assist in ensuring efficient operations by resolving claims following storm events. May act as a storm coordinator to assign losses and assisting with supervision of claims staff, interns, and independent adjusters.

5. Partner with the BCCM in the training, coaching,and mentoring of team members as well as process improvements for the business unit. Provide assistance on handling of complex losses.

6. Provide a high level of customer service while maintaining professional and productive relationships withcoworkers, supervisors,agents, agency managers, client/members,claimants, consultants, vendors, experts, and other stakeholders.

7. Partner with BCCM and Property Manager to ensure claims are settled in accordance with state and local regulations and policy language by keeping current with existing and pending case precedents and legislation.

8. Cooperate with departments to ensure the goals and objectives ofFBLFinancial Groupare achieved.

Non-Essential Functions:

Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned.

Progress towards Xactimate Level 3 certification. Becoming a Xactimate Affiliate Trainer is highly recommended.

Haag Certified Inspector designations in commercial and residential and progress towards National CAT Adjuster designation.

Attainment of ag related certifications, including AAIC Ag Advisor and Farm/Ranch Certified Specialist- FRCS

Qualifications/Know-How

  • College degree or equivalent plus eight years relevant experience preferred. Must have in-depth property claims handling experience including interpersonal and technical skills.
  • Xactimate Level 1 & 2 certifications required.
  • AIC, SCLA and four parts of CPCU designations preferred.
  • Some travel with overnight stays, including extended storm duty within any of the Property Casualty states.
  • A valid driver's license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Records are required.
  • Must be able to work under all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Must attend meetings and training as required.
  • Analytical, problem solving, organizational and excellent communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Oral and written communication skills as appropriate to this position.

    Nature & Scope

    The Property/Casualty Claims Department is responsible for settling property and casualty claims promptly and equitably from the standpoint of the claimant/insured as well as Farm Bureau. This department settles claims within eight states for numerous types of insurance policies: FB Member's Choice, Commercial, Umbrella, Works Compensation, endorsements, etc. Claim losses demand a larger share of the premium dollar than any other Farm Bureau expense. Therefore, it is important that the department operates at high performance level to help ensure that the Company remains competitive.

    The Property Claims General Adjuster is responsible for investigating, evaluating, controlling, and settling large property losses as assigned. The incumbent interprets the policy to determine whether the loss is covered, and FBL Financial Group should pay the claim. The incumbent also determines the value of the lost property and assists in setting reasonable reserves.

    Internal contacts include property and casualty leadership, business center directors, business center claims managers, accounting, legal staff, claims staff and underwriters. External contacts include agents, agency office personnel, attorneys, insureds, claimants, other carrier personnel, independent adjusters, engineers, claim-related vendors, and public adjuster.
