Protection & Control Engineer

Experienced in the utility operations field, you have an incredible understanding of system protection and its importance to electrical substations, making you a perfect candidate for our role as an Engineer, Protection & Control.

In this role, you'll perform fault studies, system protection analysis and provide protection relay settings for transmission, distribution, and generation systems. Using your skill for analytics and attention to detail, you'll also carry out substation planning and assist in designing our substations.

In the first year, you will:

• Issue and test various relay settings, starting with substation feeder protection.
• Review and support substation designs.
• Distribution protection reviews
• Support FBC Gas and third party projects
• Support Senior P&C engineers as required

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, plus 6-7 years experience in system protection and substations (transmission, distribution and generation)
• Must have Professional Engineering status with EGBC.
• A strong understanding of utility operations, including knowledge of protective relay, regulator and fuse settings in addition to protection schemes and coordination.
• Experience with substation design, high-voltage equipment, AC/DC auxiliary systems and equipment monitoring devices plus knowledge of applicable engineering standards
• Knowledge of engineering studies software (Aspen OneLiner) and ability to program protective, metering and control devices plus familiarity with ION meter programming, CYME and ARCFM would be an asset
• Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills are essential
