Basic Function and Distinguishing Characteristics
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under medical supervision from the Medical Director and general supervision from the Deputy Director of Behavioral Health Services, performs mental health evaluations including psycho-social assessments of individuals, established psychiatric diagnosis; orders and evaluates diagnostic tests, manages follow-up care and performs other work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is a single position class in the Behavioral Health Services Department. The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner has completed advance practice graduate education program in the assessment and management of psychiatric conditions and are able to perform primary outpatient, diagnostic, treatment rehabilitation, and support services for a wide variety of individuals with complex and acute psycho-social conditions, under the supervision of a physician licensed by the California Board of Medicine.
Education and Experience/ Licenses and Other Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of a California State Approved Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) required.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Licenses: Registered Nurse License issue by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing.
Valid California Driver's License
Certificates:
Nurse Practitioner Certificate issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Registered Nursing.
Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Advanced Practice Certificate issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing.
Adult or Family Psychiatric -Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate issued by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Controlled Substance Registration Certificate - schedules II to V issued by the United States Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration.
Supplemental Information
A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
