The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is recruiting for a
Psychiatric Nurse 1/2
What You Will Be Doing:
As a Psychiatric Nurse, you will be providing skilled nursing care to patients; individualized patient assessment and care; and participating in therapeutic activities as a facilitator, or co-facilitator.
You will be administering medications to patients and providing education including expected outcomes, possible side effects, and any food/drug interactions.
You will be transcribing all orders, recording this information in each patient's Medication Administration Record (MAR) and chart regarding patient behavior and responses to medication treatment.
You will be completing nursing assessments on newly admitted patients, patients on close observation special status, or patients who may require emergency seclusion or restraint.
You will also be prioritizing individual nursing needs. Giving direction to Office Assistant 1s and Psychiatric Nurse Assistants 1/2/3 including work assignments and monitoring those assignments for both completion and accuracy.

Minimum Qualifications
Psychiatric Nurse 1:
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
Psychiatric Nurse 2:
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;
AND EITHER
Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Psychiatric Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska;
OR
One year of entry-level experience as a Registered Nurse. Examples of this experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Psychiatric Nurse 1, Corrections Nurse 1, or Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
Substitution: Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Corrections, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.
Special Note: Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class.
