QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Board-certified in psychiatry with license to practice in New York State
  • Experience providing psychiatric treatment to adult and pediatric patients
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric practices
  • Comfortable using telemedicine technology and electronic medical records
  • In-depth knowledge of various psychotherapeutic methods
  • Strong observation skills to accurately evaluate patient's demeanor and identify symptoms
  • A great bedside manner and the ability to remain calm, empathetic, and patient while interacting with patients who suffer from severe mental disorders
  • Optional Fellowship in Addiction or Child/Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative working relationships
  • Excellent patient-centered skills and clinical capabilities

JOB SUMMARY: The psychiatrist is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with mental health disorders, including providing medication management, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention. The role requires collaboration with other healthcare providers, including primary care physicians, social workers, and behavioral health professionals, to deliver integrated care in a community health setting.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

CLINICAL:
  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including medical history, mental status examinations, and psychosocial assessments to diagnose mental health conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, which may include pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and behavioral interventions
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, including monitoring their effectiveness, potential side effects, and interactions with other medications
  • Provide follow-up care, assess treatment progress, and modify treatment plans as necessary
  • Perform crisis intervention and provide emergency psychiatric care when required
  • Collaborate with patients and their families to educate them about mental health conditions, treatment options, and medication adherence
  • Work with diverse patient populations, including those with co-occurring substance use disorders, trauma, and chronic medical conditions
  • Collaborate with primary care providers, behavioral health team, and other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated, holistic care to patients.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to discuss patient care and coordinate services.
  • Serve as a consultant to primary care providers and other clinical staff, offering expert psychiatric input on complex cases and treatment strategies.
  • Work closely with community agencies, mental health professionals, and social services to ensure comprehensive care and support for patients.
  • Offer patient and family centered care in a consistent cost-effective manner
  • Ensure all clinical care is delivered in a manner that meets or exceeds goals and expectations for clinical outcomes, quality assurance standards, state/local regulations, and patient satisfaction. Maintain accurate and timely records of patient care
  • Provide patient care in a wholistic manner including attention to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health

ADMINISTRATION:
  • Maintain electronic medical records efficiently and maximize resources
  • Create a learning plan that includes familiarity with new research and changes to standard of practice
  • Participate in quality improvement activities
  • Monitor and track patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed
  • Attend required staff and provider meetings except when clinical activities prevent such attendance
  • Ability to adhere to professional code of ethics, and compliance to Article 28 and FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) requirements
  • Keep up to date with professional job knowledge by reading publications, attending educational conferences, or maintaining professional networks.
  • Follow ethical and legal policies, procedures, and standards

TEAM:
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary clinical and program teams at Jericho Road Community Health Center
  • Ensure all actions, personal conduct, and communications represent the organization professionally.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Exert up to 50lbs. pushing, pulling, or lifting. Walking and climbing stairs required. Able to talk/hear and communicate with others with or without reasonable accommodation.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to travel to sites while maintaining standards of safety and compliance with motor vehicle traffic laws. This position may require travel for necessary training and conferences.
