Job Responsibilities
With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health - Forensics Evaluation Services, 7901 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC 29203.
As the Psychologist II, you will conduct forensic psychological evaluations and generate written reports on SVP residents, respondents under consideration for SVP commitment, and adult and adolescent inpatients and outpatients who are involved in the adjudication process or committed to the DMH forensic hospital. Perform court-related duties, including acting as an expert witness in criminal and civil courts.

Responsibilities for this Psychologist II include but are not limited to:
  • Conducts forensic evaluations and generates written reports on adult and adolescent inpatients and outpatients. Evaluations may involve competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, capacity to conform, diagnostic clarification/malingering assessment, disability determination, SVP commutability/annual review, or other forensic psychological issues.
  • Performs court-related duties as required, including testifying as an expert witness in civil and criminal courts.
  • Provides training and supervision to postdoctoral psychology fellows, psychiatry fellows, medical residents, and other trainees to support DMH training programs.
  • Provides age-specific and culturally competent service to clients and comply with DMH and Forensic Evalutation Service policies and procedures.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A doctorate in applied psychology from an accredited college or university and experience in the practice of applied psychology.

Agency (Facility) Minimum Requirements: Must be licensed or license eligible as a clinical psychologist in South Carolina.

Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Additional Comments

The selected candidate must have substantial training and experience in forensic psychological evaluation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to walk up a flight of stairs and to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Must possess a valid driver's license. Court appearances may exceed regular work hours.
