This position is part of the Northwest Region Public Health Division within the NMDOH. The position is located at the SE Heights Public Health Office in Albuquerque

Why does the job exist?

This position exists to provide/support clinical services for a variety of public health programs including but not limited to: Refugee Health, Family Planning including teens without parental consent, Immunizations for children and qualified adults, Treatment for Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Treatment for Tuberculosis, Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder.
This position promotes public health and participates in the role of building healthier communities in New Mexico.

How does it get done?

The nurse in this position must be an independent thinker, decision-maker and self-starter. There are complex decisions to be made in every program-Refugee Health, Family Planning, Immunization, TB, Epidemiology and Communicable Disease, Sexually Transmitted Disease and Emergency Preparedness as well as know when to seek advice from a clinician and/or refer to another provider.
The nurse utilizes protocols and standing orders and must decide when and how to implement them for the good of the client and/or the public. Complies with federal and state refugee health, vaccine, pharmacy and laboratory guidelines. Maintains general clinic flow in collaboration with office staff.

Who are the customers?

The customers are New Mexicans, with an emphasis on undeserved residents in the SE section of Albuquerque and the Albuquerque refugee population.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has experience:

- Delivering highly specialized public health services to the people in New Mexico and refugees arriving to the US from various countries
- Ensuring adherence to clinical policies, protocols and procedures.
- Ensuring Compliance with lab and pharmacy regulations
- Providing Immunizations
- Preparing and administering medications ordered by nursing-initiated protocol, standing orders and/or adjust treatment plan based on physicians' orders.

Minimum Qualification

Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a New Mexico registered nurse license.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a public health office clinic, and on occasion at auxiliary or community sites with potential for exposure to communicable diseases. Work is performed in an office with computer usage and exposure to visual display terminals, standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50lbs required. Services are provided in a clinic with diverse racial and ethnic populations many of whom do not speak the English language.
