Kind of Work

The Public Health Program Coordinator will work with two Public Health Educators in the Community Health Unit to develop, implement, coordinate, manage, and evaluate interventions to support substance misuse prevention efforts across all of St. Louis County. May serve as a health consultant on various interdisciplinary teams and represent the division at community meetings and is responsible for staying current with best practices in substance misuse prevention programming, trends, and data. Participates in the local public health assessment and improvement planning processes related to substance misuse prevention and supports and guides the efforts of the Public Health Educators. Based on funding opportunities, this position may prepare and manage grants, budgets, and contracts. This position is part of the Public Health Division Management Team and may assist with determining staff development needs, assigning work, and evaluating staff performance, as needed, and aligning programming with division and community needs.

The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2025. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $34.70 - $49.45 per hour.

This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.

Distinguishing Features of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for administering public health programs, grants and contracts. Duties include managing health intervention programs; evaluating program outcomes and implementing improvements; participating in the local public health assessment and planning process; assisting with the development and evaluation of staff core competencies. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

Selection Process
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in health education, public health, communication or a closely related field AND five (5) years full-time paid verifiable professional experience in Community based education; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in health education, public health, communication or a closely related field AND three (3) years full-time paid verifiable professional experience in Community based education.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
RATING SYSTEM:
Supplemental Questions will be 60% of the scoring process: Points will be awarded based on the applicants answers to supplemental questions 9-13.
