Position Description
TARGET ENTRY SALARY: $114,841 - $126,325 DOQ
In collaboration with the Public Works Director, the Public Works Assistant Director oversees, supports, and monitors the daily operations, field operations, planning, and coordination of the Public Works department. Assists in planning, implementing, and overseeing public infrastructure maintenance work.
Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
OSHA 30 certification within six (6) months of hire date.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related field, AND eight (8) years of responsible experience relating to commercial and/or public works operations including stormwater, and/or street maintenance, AND at least four (4) years of experience in a supervisory or manager capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered

- Directs, oversees, and manages the daily operations and activities of the Public Works department; performs daily oversight of field crews as well as mid-term and long term planning for the department and provides strategic planning, labor recruitment, and development direction.
- Supervises, manages, and directs personnel and staff; advises, reviews, guides, and mentors, direct reports, and staff throughout the division; reviews and approves completed and current assignments; assists with regulators, the public, and interactions with other departments.
- Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and evaluation of personnel for the department; directs PBMP process, performance evaluations, general assembly, supervisors' meetings, new employee orientation, and other personnel activities; oversees the recruiting, retaining, and development of employees.
- Oversees and administers health and safety efforts throughout the department; leads and directs the safety committee and Incident review board; develops and implements safety programs and ensures all protocols are effectively communicated and trained.
- Directs and approves purchasing and procurement for the department; approves requisitions, supervises the creation of bids, monitors contract extensions, and processes all purchases through budget guidelines; oversees expenses, revenue, and budget related to capital improvement projects.
- Assists, supports, and participates in the development and implementation of new or modified departmental policies; makes changes to existing programs as needed.
- Attends and conducts meetings to communicate Public Works information; interacts with the Director and City Engineer and participates in various meetings on behalf of the Director; services as Director in the Director's and City Engineer's absence.
- Provides technical advice, leadership, and direction for a variety of special projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
