Job title: Purchasing Manager

Pay: Starting at $109k to $131k a year, depending on experience

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm

Location: Hillsboro, Oregon (Five Oaks Support)

The Purchasing Manager at PARR oversees the purchasing team, specifically the Commodity and Regional Hardlines buyers. In addition to the management of the buyers, this position will also be responsible for maintaining certain product groups as specified by the Director of Purchasing. This team is critical to the effectiveness and profitability of PARR, through effective and timely purchasing of the variety of products that we sell. PARR is among the top building materials suppliers in the industry.

This position reports to the Director of Purchasing and interacts daily with all levels of management and internal customers, as well as the large numbers of vendors PARR deals with.

Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of previous experience in a similar job preferred
  • Knowledge of lumber and plywood purchasing principles, practices and protocols preferred
  • Ability to aggressively pursue company's best interest when negotiating price and contracts while remaining personable
  • Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices and protocols preferred
  • Must be able to operate personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and any other equipment necessary for the
  • High School Diploma, GED, etc.
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English required
  • Must be able to type 30+ WPM
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with suppliers
  • Provide each yard with building materials of an appropriate quality and quantity at fair market prices in a manner consistent with the inventory needs of each yard, as well as maintain appropriate levels in relation to sales volume
  • Maintain proper inventory levels using established planning and purchasing software
  • Seek out and establish new product lines and assist in integrating these products into inventory
  • Set the department's annual financial budget in conjunction with Director of Purchasing
  • Achieve or exceed the achievements of the department's yearly financial objectives.
  • Continually update the team's product knowledge
  • Manage commodity buyers and hardline buyers
  • Work with Director of Purchasing to manage contracts renewals, month over month usage, and vendor due diligence
  • Manages escalations with suppliers and customer claims
  • Facilitate new vendor set-ups and provide credit and related information as needed
  • Oversee product claims and resolutions in collaboration with sales, operations, vendors, and Director of Purchasing
  • Ensures constant, consistent, and professional communication is established and maintained between Purchasing team and all departments, divisions, and teams
  • Responsible for all payroll related items, including timecard adjustments, vacation requests and ensuring proper coverage of all positions is maintained when needed
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with established vendor programs
  • Responsible for being liaison between purchasing and marketing/merchandising team
  • Manages and maintains certain product groups and vendors as directed by the Director of Purchasing
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

The primary working conditions are an office environment with a computer at the corporate office in Hillsboro, OR.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to work in an office environment
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle when necessary
  • Both local and overnight travel may be required
  • Ability to utilize all appropriate safety equipment
