The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for developing and leading the Quality Assurance system to ensure that operational processes result in products that meet the required Product Standards as outlined in AS9100 and the Quality Assurance Manual. This position is a key change agent, accountable for driving results with minimal guidance. The role involves developing strategies, setting priorities, and directing implementation in the assigned areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the Quality Assurance department, including supervising and appraising the performance of all QA personnel. Responsibilities include hiring, training, and recommending salary adjustments for employees.
- Schedule and track inspection and quality activities to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
- Interpret relevant customer, corporate, and division quality standards for plant personnel and develop and maintain site procedures in support of the Quality Assurance Manual.
- Promote and lead the quality assurance philosophy, focusing on preventive quality systems.
- Implement and maintain procedures for inspection, disposition, and record retention for incoming products. Review quality issues with suppliers and provide supplier surveillance as necessary.
- Actively participate in corrective action and problem-solving strategies, identifying root causes of non-conformance, measuring non-conformance costs, and maintaining data collection and statistical systems for process control and root cause analysis.
- Coordinate regular management meetings to review corrective actions and quality systems, publishing regular reports and identifying trends.
- Interface with customers and operations to identify requirements, plan for product realization, and support continuous improvement in processes and systems.
- Ensure the gage calibration system is effective and complies with company operating procedures. Maintain a system for calibrating all key inspection, gaging, and process instruments, and work with vendors to improve inspection techniques and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, and industry regulatory requirements. Coordinate and conduct customer and accreditation audits. Enhance and implement the internal audit system and associated corrective actions.
- Lead training efforts for employees regarding total preventive quality.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Quality or a related field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 5 years of quality experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Requirements:
- 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- ASQ Certifications (CQE, CQM/OE, CRE, or CSSBB) are preferred.
- Knowledge of aerospace product/process specification requirements (AMS, ASTM, etc.).
- Experience in product and process failure analysis and an understanding of quality principles (SPC, TQM, MRB, etc.).
