Institutional Quality and Performance Assurance (IQPA) Quality Engineers at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) support Project Managers, Engineers and Acquisition Services in the execution of nuclear and non-nuclear projects for each of the three laboratory organizations: Science, Technology and Engineering; Weapons; and Operations.
A majority of LANL projects involve increasing our capabilities that support nuclear weapons, global security, science and applied energy programs. The dedicated and skilled employees of LANL deliver high-quality, cost-effective projects safely, on time and within budget. We have hundreds of projects that support numerous stakeholders across the Laboratory.
This role requires the quality engineer to have a proven history in supplier quality management. You will partner with other subject matter experts to provide critical assurance functions. To include activies such as assisting in the development and review of procurement packages, facilitating vendor communications, performing source verification reports at vendor sites, and performing assessments, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, resilience, and growth. Your ability to engage stakeholders, foster effective communications, and deliver on key objectives will support the lab's commitment to continuous learning and mission excellence.

Quality Engineer 3 ($104,100 - $172,200)

- Review and prepare procurement documentation germane to quality assurance and quality engineering requirements;
- Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of processes, procedures, and applications contributing to the overall objective of sustaining an effective engineering, procurement, and Project Quality Management System;
- Participate in nonconformance reporting, closures, and corrective action processes;
- Lead, coordinate, and/or conduct audits and surveillance of quality-affecting engineering, procurement, and ancillary project work.
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements:
- Technical knowledge of application engineering, procurement, and fabrication practices sufficient to comprehend specified QA requirements for these disciplines; including Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) and application of the graded approach in an NQA-1 environment.
- Advanced ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, specifications, and schematics.
- Experience effectively communicating with all levels of personnel across multiple organizations to solve complex problems. (e.g. Project Managers, Subcontractor Technical Representatives, and vendors)
- Proven ability to plan, prioritize, and schedule work to ensure completion in accordance with requirements, deadlines, and budget.
- Experience participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of processes, procedures, and applications contributing to the overall objective of sustaining an effective engineering, procurement, and Project Quality Management Plan.
- Experience mentoring Junior team members.
- Experience in engaging people; strong interpersonal, communications, negotiate agreements, collaboration and demonstrating the ability to build consensus.
- Experience conducting and reporting audits, assessments, surveillances, and observations.
- Experience reviewing of various technical documents, drawings for completeness and compliance, and schematics associated with building and infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience in collating and presenting critical findings discovered while performing assessments (Surveillances or Observations.)
- Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of quality assurance and control programs.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of precision machine assembly.
- Facilitates collaboration and coordination to solve complex performance challenges.
- Demonstrated experience driving fact-based decisions utilizing data and risk-based analysis related to complex technical issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office (including Calendar and Teams), VPN applications, storing and retrieving electronic records, using custom software (i.e., NCR tool, Devonway i-Link, Autodesk).
Desired Qualifications:
- ISO-9001 or NQA-1 Lead Auditor certification.
- Procurement Technical Subject Matter Expert certification
- Experience in classified matter protection and control and classified computing.
- Nationally recognized Quality Assurance Engineering related certification such as American Society of Quality's Certified Quality Assurance Engineer, Reliability Engineer, or equivalent.
