SUMMARY

Provides direction and guidance to individuals engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability. Assists management in establishing, implementing and maintaining the quality management system. Works in unison with manufacturing operations to ensure effective transfer of new products to manufacturing disciplines is in accordance with approved data. Actively participates with manufacturing operations leadership on current production issues including quality, efficiency, and manufacturability of product.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
  • Maintains responsibility for planning, organizing and managing all quality activities.
  • Validates quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes; documenting evidence; determining operational and performance qualification; writing and updating quality assurance and ISO procedures.
  • Maintains and improves product quality by completing product, company, system, compliance, and surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs, and manufacturing and training methods. Be involved with customer Design, Process and Assembly Review(s), as required.
    Provides leadership during external and internal audit of customer Quality processes. Champions the efforts for external audits such as: ISO 9001:2008, NSF and WQA.
  • Manages PPAP process for new suppliers and as required customers; consisting of PSW, ISIR, Process Flow Diagram, Process FMEA, Control Plan and Material Certification.
  • Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing change.
    Inspects and evaluates nonconforming material to establish the nature and root cause of defects. Works in conjunction with Manufacturing to address internal quality and production concerns, review and classification of nonconforming product and recommends final disposition. Develops and implements methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material and devises methods to accurately assess cost and responsibility.
    Champion root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for process related concerns. Drives CAR/PAR process. Support manufacturing personnel to ensure products and processes comply with the relevant requirements regarding safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
  • Responsible for calibration program used to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities. Responsible for researching new and suitable replacement gages/test equipment and the services of external calibration services.
  • Meets quality assurance financial objectives by estimating requirements; recommending annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
    Accomplishes human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Updates job knowledge by studying trends in and developments in quality management; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


SPECIFIC SKILLS
  • Experience working and managing in a casting and machining manufacturing environment. Experience establishing and maintaining an ISO 9001:2008 manufacturing environment
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Project
  • Strong initiative and drive to do "whatever it takes"
  • Organizational skills for efficient department leadership are mandatory
  • Ability to communicate professionally with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts
  • Problem solving techniques to include brainstorming, as well as working efficiently with cross functional areas
  • Solid decision making and leadership skills
  • Thorough knowledge and ability to accurately apply SPC techniques and processes
  • Knowledge of CMM's, X-Ray & Spectrometers
  • Experience utilizing Six Sigma methodology a plus


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 3-5 employees in the Quality Department. Carries out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Clear and concise communication with employees regarding expectations and performance. Obtain training for employees per individual job descriptions and/or serve as trainer to ensure employees are properly prepared to perform their job duties efficiently and safely. Submit said training records to Human Resources for personnel file and training records. Approve/deny requests for time off from employees and submit requests to Human Resources in a timely manner. Responsible for maintaining vacation schedule for employees so as to ensure appropriate staffing levels during peak periods.

EDUCATION and/or WORK EXPERIENCE

Bachelors Degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university plus minimum five years related experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and vendors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Competence, awareness, and training for probationary employees will be assessed by the "New Employee Checklist," and the evaluation conducted at 90 days, along with other training as needed. Competence, awareness, and training for regular employees will be assessed when annual evaluations are conducted, along with other measurements in accordance with the area the employee is assigned to.
