JOB SUMMARY

The Quantum Systems Engineer is responsible for supportingthe enhancement, programming and maintenance of the EPB quantum network. Thisrole will assist the quantum systems manager in overseeing hardware andsoftware vendors related to quantum networking products, as well as workingwith other technical support staff within EPB. The position requires experienceand expertise in telecommunications, programming, project management, fielddeployments, and customer relations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with the enhancement of the EPB quantumnetwork, focusing on reducing optical losses, optimizing network control andapplications, integrating high-speed automatic polarization control devices,and facilitating the incorporation of new quantum components throughcollaboration with industry experts
  • Assist with the expansion of the quantum networkinfrastructure to deploy and integrate additional quantum data centers into thenetwork
  • Broaden the scope of the EPB quantum network byinvestigating long-range connections to other regional and national quantumnetworks
  • Showcase the effectiveness of quantum protectioncybersecurity technology on EPB's electric system by implementing automatedmonitoring for real-time performance data collection and enhance network designsoftware to support new applications in grid resiliency and quantum security
  • Manage projects with cross-functional teams toimplement, install, configure, and provide technical support for the quantumnetwork architecture
  • Provide after-hours support to maintain theoperation and service levels of quantum networking systems - available24/7/365
  • Clearly communicate and present technicalinformation to both technical team members and employees in other departmentswho may not be familiar with quantum networking terminology. Developexperimental setups to investigate and test theoretical models in quantumphysics

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Associateor Bachelor Degree in a related technical field is preferred, and/or 2+ yearsof experience with quantum networks
  • US citizenship is required
  • Industrycertifications related to specific technical areas are preferred
  • Proficientin computer programming (Python, Visual Studio C/C++, etc.)
  • Proficientskills in security implementation around various compliance regulations andrisk management
  • Proficientskills in routing, switching, firewalls, and protocols skills
  • Complexquantum network issues resolution skills
  • Proficientquantum networking, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills

CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess and maintain a current, valid driver'slicense in state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation ofmotor vehicles. Must be insurable under the company's insurance policy
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal,presentation, and time management skills
  • Detail-oriented with a critical degree ofaccuracy used to manage complex systems
  • A self-starter, able to work assigned tasks withminimal direction, and be able to think independently
  • Ability to critically assess the results oftasks and directed checks to ensure successful outcomes

EPB provides electric and communications services, which areconsidered critical infrastructure by the Department of Homeland Security. ThisEPB job is essential to support this critical infrastructure and may berequired to work onsite or in the field to maintain these services.
