Production Agency Quality ensures that all products in the Weapons Production Directorate meet or exceed defined quality requirements.
As a Quality Product Verifier you will independently evaluate final products, production data, and quality evidence to verify final products meet design and quality requirements. The evaluation is achieved by a detailed and thorough compare and contrast approach between production-related data and quality evidence versus product drawings/specifications as well as other codified quality and business requirements. Upon successful evaluation, Quality Product Verifiers certify (on behalf of LANL) through completion of a formal certificate that products meet all applicable requirements. Quality Product Verifiers also present the product and its associated data on behalf of LANL to Customers for their inspection and verification while serving as the liaison between LANL and the Customer. Quality Product Verifiers also perform delegated verification inspections and product stamping activities on behalf of The United States of America Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
Quality Product Verifiers perform evaluations on various final products such as plutonium pits, high explosive detonator cable assemblies, radioisotope thermoelectric generators, and other components/subassemblies. The technical requirements associated with these final products are primarily dimensional and functional performance requirements. However, there are other requirements such as chemistry, metallurgy, pre-test conditioning, and specialized analyses.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical: Thorough experience in applying engineering, scientific, and mathematical principles to the design, development, manufacturing, inspection, and/or testing of products. Advanced ability in understanding, interpreting, and communicating drawings and specifications.
Quality: Thorough experience in comparing quality control results against technical specifications.
Communication: Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills as evidenced by successful interaction with various levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and/or customers.
Mentorship: Serve as mentor and/or provide guidance and leadership for others.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 6 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level a Ph.D. may be preferred.
Desired Qualifications:
Technical: Advanced knowledge of and experience in fundamentals of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per the ASME Y14.5M standard.
Weapons Quality: Advanced knowledge of the weapons quality requirements (NAP 401.1A) and NNSA Defense Program Business Process System requirements related to product realization.
Quality Standards: Advanced knowledge of or experience with quality management systems such as AS9100, ISO 9001, and/or TS/ISO 16949.
Product Acceptance: Knowledge of and experience with NNSA product acceptance process, methods, and requirements. Knowledge of and experience with NNSA stamping and marking process, methods, and requirements.
Quality Regulations: Advanced knowledge of and experience with quality regulations, policies, and procedures.
Experience with nuclear and/or high explosives facilities and operations.
Advanced understanding of the Production Agency/Design Agency relationship as it applies to the manufacturing of weapon products and associated interaction within the weapons complex.
Active DOE "Q" clearance.
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
