WORK SCHEDULE

  • 100% FTE - 40 hours per week
  • Day Shift - UW MEDICINE ITS SERVICES CORE HOURS ARE 07:00 - 16:00 (PST), Monday-Friday


  • POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Providing basic to expert level support for the maitenance of the Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) installation and its users.
  • REDCap is a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases. While REDCap can be used to collect virtually any type of data, it is specifically geared to support online or offline data capture for research studies and operations. Issues can come from a wide array of different disciplines and range from simple "how to" requests to complex problems like database design, compliance issues, coding errors or survey design.
  • This person will be seen as the "face" of the REDCap installation.


  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

    UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Medicine Primary Care (UWMPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You perform the role of Biomedical Informatics Consultant to Researchers needing basic to expert level help with REDCap outside of the normal scope of user support, including intake, problem definition, solution design, execution, and delivery of desired deliverables. Examples include REDCap project design, coding of advanced logic and calculations in REDCap, data migration from other systems (e.g. Excel, Access, etc.), and creation of dynamic SQL fields in REDCap.
  • You guide other REDCap Administrators in basic to more advanced consultations.
  • You communicate with investigators to determine scope, requirements, deliverables, and timing for consultation, developing estimates for consultations.
  • You analyze, design, develop, and test REDCap projects to support successful capture of data for clinical research projects.
  • You document technical specifications.
  • You answer end user questions about REDCap functionality, taking the lead on more advanced requests escalated by other REDCap Administrators.
  • You troubleshoot issues related to the REDCap installation, taking the lead on more advanced requests escalated by other REDCap Administrators.
  • You process support tickets relating to the normal operation of REDCap in collaboration with the University of Washington Health Sciences Library.
  • You document common issues in a knowledgebase and write responses that can be utilized by other users.
  • You participate/present at annual REDCap Conference and/or REDCap administrative consortium calls.


  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Computer Science, Information Technology, Biomedical Informatics, or related field or equivalent education and experience.
  • 4+ years of experience to include the below.
  • 4+ years of experience in end user support in an IT domain.
  • 4+ years of experience designing projects in REDCap.
  • 4+ years of research experience, preferably in the clinical domain.
  • Advanced experience with requirements gathering and analysis, including direct work with end users or customers.
  • Advanced experience developing, maintaining, and managing IT applications and systems in a healthcare setting.
  • Advanced experience running all validation scripts.
  • Advanced understanding of database design and debugging skills.
  • Experience running all validation scripts.
  • Familiar with the backend SQL database.


  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.
  • The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. The work may be performed in either an office environment or by telecommuting with manager approval, during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies. This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.
  • Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.
  • Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.
  • The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
