JOB OVERVIEW
As the Regional Chief Engineer, you will oversee the engineering and maintenance operations across the Easton's Group hotel portfolio, ensuring the safety, comfort, and satisfaction of guests and employees. You will ensure compliance with all Brand standards, as well as federal, provincial, and local regulatory and inspection requirements. This role also includes overseeing and guiding the Chief Engineers and Maintenance Managers in each hotel, ensuring they are fully supported in their operational and leadership roles.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct and coordinate the daily activities of the engineering and maintenance teams across the Easton's Group portfolio. Plan, organize, and communicate departmental goals and staffing schedules to ensure proper coverage and efficiency.
Ensure all Chief Engineers and Maintenance Managers are properly trained, resourced, and equipped to meet the hotel's operational needs.
Recommend and advise management on staffing and human resource-related actions, including disciplinary measures, in line with Company policies. Notify management of any potentially serious issues affecting the hotels or their operations.
Lead the development and execution of a consistent, company-wide preventive maintenance program for all properties ensuring its goals are achieved efficiently and effectively.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, educating staff on current safety issues and safety regulations in all hotels. Monitor safety programs, investigate accidents, and report hazardous situations to management promptly.
Oversee and maintain the physical operation of all properties, including building maintenance, HVAC systems, kitchen and laundry equipment, refrigeration, lighting, plumbing, and water treatment systems. Ensure that the hotels are always in excellent physical condition.
Establish and enforce procedures to secure inventory, assets, tools, and supplies across all properties. Minimize waste and ensure timely replenishment of materials and supplies.
Collaborate with hotel management teams to ensure high guest satisfaction by promptly addressing any guest complaints or maintenance-related issues.
Monitor and control the departmental budgets across all hotels, providing regular updates to senior management. Participate in the preparation of the annual capital and operating budgets for the engineering departments.
Ensure all maintenance work is completed on a timely, cost-effective basis, meeting or exceeding the brand's standards and specifications.
Review and manage security protocols for each property to protect hotel assets, employees, and guests. Supervise relationships with third-party security contractors when necessary.
Act as a point of contact between regional engineering teams and hotel department heads. Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration to ensure the smooth operation of each hotel's engineering and maintenance functions.
Work closely with vendors and contractors, ensuring that service agreements are met, and work is done in line with brand expectations. Negotiate contracts, review bids, and manage performance-related issues effectively.
Oversee compliance with all local, provincial, and federal regulations for safety, environmental impact, and building codes.
Provide leadership and training to Chief Engineers and Maintenance Managers, ensuring continuous development and adherence to operational standards.
Provide support for special projects, renovations, and upgrades, as required.
Assist with other duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 5-8 years' experience in engineering, facilities management, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Experience in hotel engineering operations is preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, College or advanced vocational training is required, and professional certification in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical is highly preferred.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, employees, and vendors.
In-depth knowledge of general building maintenance and systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, mechanical, carpentry, etc.) across multiple sites.
Proven ability to manage budgets and control costs while maintaining high service levels.
Proficient in the use of maintenance management software and systems to track issues, schedules, and budgets.
Ability to solve complex problems and apply practical solutions with a focus on guest and operational satisfaction.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Experience working with regulatory bodies and ensuring compliance with all safety, fire, and building regulations.
Ability to manage multiple properties and prioritize competing demands.
A proactive leadership style with excellent organizational, training, and motivational skills.
