Volkert is searching for a high energy and motivated Regional Construction Management Services Director to operate and grow our Construction Management Services Group in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The successful candidate would lead a staff of 75 - 80 individuals across the region, specifically in Virginia and Washington DC. This position is located preferably out of our Mid Atlantic Office, Springfield, VA, but open to our other offices in Virginia, DC, MD, or PA. This leadership position would develop a comprehensive understanding of local and state transportation programs and corresponding funding, budgets, and advertisement for support services with a primary focus on CEI and construction management services.

What you'll be doing:
Familiar with the integration of engineering, procurement, and construction activities
Direct construction engineering administration and inspection project/program
Developing and maintaining an excellent professional relationship with those organizations to facilitate both the successful completion of current ongoing projects and the successful pursuit of follow-on assignments
Oversee the management of projects so that schedules and budget are met
Responsible for successful contracting and project execution
Negotiate contracts with VDOT, as well as other Construction Services clients
Continually identify and pursue future opportunities and increase backlog while managing client relationships
Review the work of other professionals including QA/QC, mentoring, training, and growing staff in the performance of job duties
Manage project budgets and schedules, interface with clients, and prepare/submit invoices
Coordinate with other Project Managers to balance workload and staffing needs
Determine the market direction and lead market awareness regionally for the Construction Services practice
Be actively engaged in technical and professional associations
Serve as a thought leader that contributes to the practice through authorship of technical articles, presentations at conferences, and active participation on professional organization boards

What you need to have:
20+ years of construction engineering management and inspection for transportation projects
4-year degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer registration is strongly preferred
Excellent external and internal, oral and written communication skills
Strong engineering judgement and solid background in transportation
Public speaking and presentation abilities are required
Must also possess a thorough knowledge of current technology and be able to select and apply appropriate software for use on project
Travel required throughout the region

Proven ability to develop markets and establish a client base

  • Valid driver's license.
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).
