Position Overview

Driven by this belief, our Directors of Leader Development (DLDs) develop leaders within each IDEA region to ensure every school is led by a transformational leadership team. To achieve this mission, DLDs partner with principal supervisors, mentor principals, and other stakeholders to:
Location: This is a full-time position located in the Rio Grande Valley. Preference will be given to candidates who live in this region, or who are willing to relocate. Directors of Leader Development are expected to work on campuses at least 80% of the time. When not working on a campus, they are able to work remotely if given approval by regional leaders.

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $92,600 and $109,300, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for performance pay based on organizational performance and goal attainment.

To achieve this mission, DLDs partner with principal supervisors, mentor principals, and other stakeholders to:
- Coach a portfolio of school leaders, which may include Cadre of Aspiring Principal participants, Principals-in-Residence, new principals, and/or returning principals based on the needs of the region.
- Build strong relationships with the mentor principals and principal supervisors who manage the leaders in their portfolio.
- Work alongside mentor principals and principal supervisors to develop school leaders and their lead teams.
- Build the capacity of mentor principals and principal supervisors to hire, onboard, develop and retain excellent school leaders.

Responsibilities
1) Use data-driven practices to prioritize support for specific leaders and schools.
- Analyze academic, persistence, retention, and proficiency-based data metrics in collaboration with regional team members to make appropriate decisions about resource allocation and coaching support.
- Track and monitor progress for leader development and student outcomes, ensuring ongoing follow-up with mentor principals and principal supervisors.
2) Partner with regional team to build a strong leadership pipeline and develop new school leaders.
- Hold regular partnership meetings and maintain ongoing communication with principal supervisors and mentor principals.
- Align with mentor principals and principal supervisors on coaching priorities for portfolio leaders.
- Support the creation and implementation of coaching plans for portfolio leaders, in partnership with their supervisors.
- Coach a portfolio of aspiring school leaders (Cadre of Aspiring Principal participants and/or Principals-in-Residence) to ensure regions have a consistent pipeline of internal leaders ready to fill principal vacancies.
- Collaborate and share resources with regional team members and other Human Assets team members, especially Directors of Leader Development in other regions.
- Effectively manage and coach team of regional content and leadership coaches to outcomes serving adult learning, coaching, and feedback mechanisms resulting in increased student achievement metrics.
3) Lead effective professional development and in-field follow up for school leaders:
- At the request of regional leaders, partner with HQ teams to oversee the preparation, execution and in-field follow up of nationally-led professional development programs, such as New Leader Institute, Coaching Academy, Cadre of Aspiring Principals, Successor Principals Academy, and Rhodes Fellowship.
- Lead the design, preparation, execution and follow up for regionally created professional development sessions, based on regional data.
Goals
Individual, non-reward eligible goals will vary based on the needs of the region, but may include goals such as:
- Student Achievement: 100% of all schools led by principals in portfolio earn a C or higher (or equivalent).
- Staff Retention: 80% of schools led by principals in portfolio achieve 85% staff retention.
- Leader Retention: 90% of leaders in portfolio are retained through the school year.
- Leader Pipeline: 90% of Cadre of Aspiring Principals participants in portfolio complete capstone proficiently.
- Leader Promotion: 80% of principal vacancies in regions are filled with internal aspiring leaders (Cadre of Aspiring Principal participants and/or Principals-in-Residence).
- Team Goal Attainment: If assigned to manage a team of coaches, you will be responsible for leading 80% of your team to meet 80% of their driving goals
As regional team members, Directors of Leader Development will also have regional, reward-eligible goals that are set at the regional level and carried by all regional team members.
Required Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
- Experience: 4+ years teacher experience required; 3+ years of school leader experience required; principal experience preferred

- Proven ability to analyze and interpret data to identify trends, identify root causes, and develop strategies and tactics that yield results and achieve goals
- Proven ability to develop effective partnerships with multiple stakeholders working towards the same outcome
- Proven ability to drive improvements in student outcomes through instructional and leadership coaching
- Proven ability to provide clear, actionable feedback verbally and in writing that leads to improvements in leadership practices
- Proven ability to drive a strategy towards the desired outcomes, from planning through execution & follow up
- Ability to design and facilitate engaging and impactful professional development sessions for adults
- Exceptional ability to coach adults and inspire significant change in their actions
- Skills in critical thinking and problem-solving, along with the ability to coach and develop these in others
- Skills in organization, prioritization, follow through, and attention to detail, with ability to coach these in others
- Skills in effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to manage and monitor multiple projects at once, often under pressure with competing priorities and tight turnarounds, while maintaining composure, ensuring quality, and achieving results
- Marked experience and commitment to building and maintaining a culture of high integrity, mutual respect, operational excellence, and prioritization of diversity, equity and inclusion
- Proficiency in Relay Graduate School of Education frameworks and protocols (Observation Feedback, Weekly Data Meetings, Action Steps, See It Name It Do, etc.) strongly preferred
