ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Regional Tax Manager to lead and oversee state and local tax (SALT), property tax compliance, audits, 1099/1042 (U.S.) and NR4/T4A/T5 (Canada) filings, escheatment processes, and payroll tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
The ideal candidate has deep expertise in multi-jurisdictional tax laws, experience managing audits, and a proactive approach to tax planning and risk mitigation. This role will be instrumental in ensuring compliance, optimizing tax strategies, and supporting broader financial objectives across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
State & Local Tax (SALT) Compliance & Planning
Lead the preparation, review, and filing of state and local income/franchise tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments.
Manage multi-state tax audits, including responses to inquiries, appeals, and settlements.
Conduct technical research on SALT issues, including nexus determinations, apportionment, tax credits, and supply chain/3PL tax implications.
Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, assess business impacts, and recommend strategic tax planning initiatives.
Partner with internal stakeholders and external advisors to optimize tax positions.
1099/1042 (U.S.) & NR4/T4A/T5 (Canada) Filings
Oversee full compliance cycle for U.S. 1099/1042-S filings and Canadian NR4/T4A/T5 tax slip filings.
Resolve IRS notices and queries in collaboration with internal tax teams and external advisors.
Partner with internal technology and finance teams to automate and improve the Tax Identification Number (TIN) process.
Lead the monthly 1042-S tax return process and associated payments.
Property Tax Management
Oversee property tax compliance, including renditions, assessments, and payments across multiple jurisdictions.
Manage property tax appeals and collaborate with assessors to minimize tax liabilities.
Work closely with real estate, finance, and operations teams to evaluate the property tax impact of business decisions.
Escheatment & Unclaimed Property Compliance
Monitor, track, and manage unclaimed property in compliance with escheatment laws.
Ensure timely due diligence, reporting, and remittance of abandoned assets to state authorities.
Maintain accurate records and work with internal teams to mitigate escheatment risks.
Tax Reporting, Operational Transfer Pricing & Pillar Two Compliance
Support finance and group tax teams with tax reporting, reconciliations, and validation of tax-related general ledger (G/L) accounts.
Assist finance and group tax teams with Country-By-Country Reporting (CbCR), operational transfer pricing matters, and Pillar Two compliance.
Payroll Tax Compliance (U.S. & Canada)
Provide strategic oversight of external payroll tax service providers to ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local payroll tax regulations.
Collaborate with internal payroll, finance, accounting, and HR teams to align payroll tax processes with company policies and financial objectives.
ABOUT YOU
Extensive knowledge of state & local tax laws (SALT) and property tax in the U.S. & working knowledge of similar taxes in Canada.
Knowledge and experience of overseeing 1099/1042 (U.S.) & NR4/T4A/T5 (Canada) compliance cycles
Strong understanding of multi-jurisdictional tax compliance, including provincial/state regulations.
Experience with tax audits, appeals, and risk mitigation strategies.
Familiarity with tax automation tools and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Avalara).
Knowledge of escheatment laws and unclaimed property compliance processes.
Understanding of Pillar Two and international tax reporting requirements.
Detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy in tax filings and compliance.
Proactive and solutions-focused, identifying opportunities to optimize tax strategies.
Collaborative, working cross-functionally with finance, legal, HR, and external partners.
Adaptable to regulatory changes, quickly adjusting strategies to maintain compliance.
Ethical and integrity-driven, ensuring full compliance with tax laws and internal policies.
