This vacancy is for the Director of Nursing for the Forensic Division of Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish). ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services.

Special Entrance Rate (SER):
$4389.60/biweekly

PREMIUM PAY (per hour physically worked)Retention Pay - $8/hr.
Longevity Pay - $2/hr (increases up to a max $5/hr.)
Specialty Unit Pay - $2/hr.
Various shift differential pays available

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:

Six years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A bachelor's degree in nursing plus five years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A master's degree in nursing or public health plus five years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A doctorate in nursing or public health plus four years of experience as a licensed registered nurse.

Direct all nursing care services within a facility.

Establishes standards of nursing care and performance of all personnel within the nursing department.

Establishes nursing objectives, philosophy, and goals.

Participates in instructional planning as a member of executive management.

Makes daily rounds of nursing units and may provide direct patient care on complex cases.

Develops and maintains a current Master Staffing Plan.

Conducts research as it relates to nursing interventions and implements new nursing processes.

Maintains, implements, and updates written organizational plans.

Delineates the duties and responsibilities of each category of nursing personnel.

Formulates nursing budget request; administers budget by reviewing reports and reacting to feedback and procedures.

Assures current licensure of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses.

Functions as liaison required between medical staff and nursing department.
Assures competency of nursing personnel through an ongoing evaluation process.

Formulates, reviews, and revises policies and procedures as indicated.

Formulates methodology for evaluating and assuring quality of nursing care.

Coordinates interdepartmental relationships and interviews, assesses, and hires personnel.

Provides for nursing administration on all shifts.

Collaborates with nursing school representative to organize clinical experience of students.

Appoints committees and/or committee members.

Conducts head nurse and supervisor meetings.

Prepares periodic reports on the status of nursing care.

Recommends policy and/or procedure change to administration and/or medical staff.
