POSITION SUMMARY

As part of a multi-disciplinary team providing medical care, the RN is responsible for

administering medications, interviewing patients, obtaining complete medical history,

provides education about human sexuality, family planning, abortion, colposcopy, LEEP

and general health education, as applicable.

The RN provides direct nursing care to clients during the surgical abortion procedure and

for recovery care for post-surgical abortion period.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIE

SRH Clinical Care (35%)
Reviews the patient health history for completeness and records findings. Alerts

APC regarding critical information about the patient's chief complaint, history of

present illness, and other current or past medical or social problems.
Provides care to patients receiving family planning, abortion, colposcopy, LEEP,

and other GYN services according to PPGNY medical policies and procedures

under the direction of APC, or physician.
Accurately documents and administers medications as ordered by the provider and

provides associated teaching.
Documents competently in the electronic medical record using the correct PPGNY

templates and forms.
Arranges for interpreters for patients with communication barriers.
Collaborates with members of a multi-disciplinary health care team & provides care

within New York State RN scope of practice.
Assists in promoting optimum center operations, excellent patient service and

compliance with both agency and funding source policies and regulations.
Participates in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established goals for

productivity.
Adheres to affiliate goals and policies on professionalism, wait time in-clinic and

on the phone, and the system for addressing client complaints.
Assists in the orientation and training of new RN/LPN or unlicensed medical

personnel on the center team as needed.
Performs other educational and experience related duties as required.

ICA Patient Care (10%)
Assists in abortion service in a variety of functions including abortion counseling,

POC room, float and assisting in procedure room. Manage the ICA Recovery

Room. When acting in this capacity, you are responsible for continuous monitoring

and care of patients after they leave the procedure room.

Patient Education (20%)
Provides health education and nursing care related to family planning, reproductive

health, abortion service, transgender health services, and STI's to all clients.
Provide accurate patient centered, non-judgmental, education according to MS&G

and signs informed consent related to visit

Lab and Quality Assurance Activities (15%)
Performs laboratory tests as ordered, completes laboratory requisitions, packages

labs for transport according to PPGNY lab procedures. Performs daily controls per

lab protocols.
Follows all safety and security procedures and guidelines.
Participates in agency infection prevention and quality control initiatives and

protocols.

Follow up and Care Coordination (10%)
Notifies patients of laboratory results and educates regarding clinician plan for

follow up.
Screens and follows up on patient phone calls in collaboration with center APC or

PPGNY physicians.

Maintenance of Clinical Skills and Competencies (10%)
Performs and maintains job duties within scope of practice based on

competencies, NYS Licensure, Privileging and/or specific education and training.
Attends monthly didactics and incorporates information into daily care provision.
Maintains clinical skills and competencies as required by PPGNY, PPFA, NYS

DOH, and for licensure. Participates in annual competency checks and training for

all new services, tests, and skills as assigned.
Maintains up-to-date nursing licensure and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Technical
Current NYS RN Licensure
Current ACLS and BLS certification
Experience with Intravenous insertion and IV Push medications preferred
Family Planning or OB/GYN experience preferred
Electronic Medical Records Experience preferred
Valid driver's license and/or access to public or private transportation for

travel to affiliate sites as required.

    • Licensures/Certifications - Current NYS RN License

    • Proficiency in other languages preferred
    • Prior Planned Parenthood employment.
    • Prior health care employment


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Frequent
    • standing, walking, bending. Must be able to walk up and down stairs. Requires lifting or
    • moving of patients/supplies/equipment. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work
    • on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. Requires the ability
    • to hear and to communicate orally with others. This role routinely uses standard office
    • equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, and medical
    • equipment and will require reaching, grasping, pushing and pulling.


TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
    • This job operates in a professional office environment. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions in a health center environment. May require travel to other health centers, at times in inclement weather. Requires flexible schedule and during peak activity periods work in excess of 7.5 hours per day and/or 37.5 hours per week

$61.08 - $61.08 an hour
