Summary

The Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children's Cancer and Hematology Clinic in McAllen, TX is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse II to work in our outpatient clinic/infusion center. The clinic was established in 2001 through a joint effort of the Vannie Cook Foundation, Baylor College of Medicine, and Texas Children's Hospital in order to provide local pediatric hematology/oncology care to the under-served children of the Rio Grande Valley. The successful candidate will function as pediatric hematology/oncology nurse providing direct patient care including chemotherapy administration, floor nursing, telephone triage and management, and other duties related to patient care.

Job Duties

  • Performs and documents assessment of the pediatric hematology/oncology patient and family.
  • Provides direct patient care including chemotherapy administration, floor nursing, and assisting with procedures.
  • Performs patient care coordination including scheduling of appointments, scans, admissions, home health, etc. as needed to ensure complete patient care.
  • Executes therapeutic physician or nurse interventions according to established standards of practice and appropriate policies and procedures related to care delivery.
  • Identifies and documents changes in patient's condition and/or abnormal finding and uses appropriate problem solving and interventions.
  • Identifies actual/potential barriers to learning and utilizes teaching strategies and materials appropriate to the learning ability of the patient/family.
  • Ensures and participates in ongoing communication with other health care team members in order to provide timely performance of diagnostic examiniation and effective patient flow.
  • Demonstrates appropriate delegation and prioritization skills related to patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Two years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Hematology-Oncology.
