Why does the job exist?
This position will provide management support to the Director of Nursing, by providing direct supervision of a Nursing Unit at a long-term care facility. Will directly supervise nursing staff, while ensuring licensing and certification standards are met. May be required to provide direct care as needed.
How does it get done?
Plans, directs, coordinates and supervises the delivery of long-term care services to residents in the facility.
Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.

Ideal Candidate
Must have
The ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
The ability to function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of management experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment is subject to nationwide criminal background check and is conditional pending results. Licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPPA) training.
Working Conditions
Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses stations, resident rooms, etc.).
Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
