Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Job Specialty: Medical Surgical Unit
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 7 AM - 7 PM, 12-hour Day Shift
Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
Experience: Minimum 1 year for RN and LPN; CNA needs manager approval if there's no recent hospital experience
License: RN/LPN/CNA
Certifications: BLS
Must-Have: Experience caring for Geriatrics, ideally with SNF or LTAC experience
Job Description:
- Provide care for a variety of patients who are discharge-ready and awaiting community placement.
- Manage patients with behavioral/psych needs while ensuring security due to potential aggressiveness.
- Handle non-acute patients, primarily not requiring special monitoring or frequent IV access.
- Administer occasional IV antibiotics.
- Implement nursing care under a nursing home model, focusing on fall prevention, skin integrity, and activities.
- Collaborate with an activities coordinator, CNAs, and expert care management staff.
- Utilize a team nursing approach with patient ratios, up to 1:9 for RNs and LPNs, and 1:6-7 for CNAs.
- Perform daily responsibilities including medication administration, dressing changes, and charting.
- Partake in a collaborative support structure, with CNA, charge nurse, activities support person, social worker, case manager, phlebotomist, house supervisor, RT, hospitalist, and PT/OT/ST.
- Utilize Cerner for charting.
- Follow a schedule with every other weekend rotation; no on-call requirements.
- Adhere to holiday expectations as needed.
- Wear professional scrubs in any color; avoid acrylic nails and Crocs shoes.
- Participate in a two-day hospital orientation and one shift on the unit.
