Job Summary

The Psychiatric Registered Nurse is responsible for initial assessments and management of physical, medical, and medication considerations for PHP patients. The RN must be able to effectively assess and monitor patients? medical and psychiatric care and function well within a multidisciplinary team.

Medication Management

Follows policies and procedures for medication administration

Conducts patient education sessions with an emphasis on understanding and complying with medication orders.

Works with providers, pharmacists, state providers, case managers, and families to secure authorization for exchange of information and current medication records.

Patient Care Practices

Responds to identified patient/family learning needs and implements appropriate, individualized methods to meet them.

Performs timely, accurate, and concise documentation per Michigan Medicine policies.

Attends daily treatment team meeting to discuss patient status and progress toward therapeutic goals.

Conducts group sessions on a variety of topics, not limited to: symptom management, health and nutrition, coping skills, medication management.

Serves as a patient advocate while balancing stewardship of organizational resources.

Proactively prevents medical necessity denials through educating providers, staff, patients, and families; interfaces with payers and documents relevant information.

Interfaces with payers regarding options for transitions of care and informs families of risk/cost/benefit of app options.

Assesses individuals in the community for possible admission.

Able to assess for safety risks and intervene to maintain a safe environment.

Performs efficiently in emergent situations.

Professional Development

Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice.

Maintains current certifications, including: BLS and CAC, Recipient Rights, and WELLE certification.

Pursues continuing education and self-directed learning.

Participates in development and attainment of PHP and overall health system goals and initiatives.

Actively utilizes effective problem identification and resolution skills.

Maintains positive working relationships with referents to be readily available for assessment.

Assesses individuals in the community for appropriateness of admission.

Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required Qualifications*

Current license to practice nursing in the State of Michigan (RN)

Three (3) to five (5) years of inpatient psychiatric nursing experience required.

Three (3) to five (5 ) years of psychiatric utilization review experience required.

*Utilization review skills with agency staff and referral sources as appropriate.

**Under Michigan Law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of employment or transfer for this position.

Skills in leading therapeutic groups.

Knowledge of both patient and payer eligibility and reimbursement regulations and impact on the continuum of care.

Ability to work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team with Social Workers and other staff and providers, both internal and external.
