Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care Unit
Job Specialty: Intermediate Care Unit
Job Duration: 13 weeks (26-week contracts preferred but not required)
Shift: 7P-7A (12-hour Night Shifts)
Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
Experience: Intermediate/PCU level of care experience required (1 year). If only Med/Surg experience with some PCU, 2 years required. First-time travelers must have completed at least two 13-week assignments.
License: Valid registered nurse license in the state of assignment
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; AACCN and CCRN preferred
Must-Have: Experience with Trauma and Stroke patients; Insulin/Cardiac gtt experience
Job Description:
- Provide care to trauma and neuro patients, including stroke patients and performing Q2H neuro checks.
- Manage medical/surgical conditions such as respiratory illnesses, respiratory failure, post-op general surgery, sepsis, and more.
- Care for cardiac patients, handling conditions like STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, AFIB with RVR, and cardiac procedures post-op.
- Work with drips like cardiac drips (Amio, Cardizem) and insulin titration.
- Support provided includes CNAs, phlebotomy, resource nurses, RT and hospitalists; trauma surgery monitors patients.
- Use Cerner charting system, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors.
- Float to emergency, intensive care, and coronary care units as needed.
- Participate in weekend rotation every other weekend and holiday scheduling based on unit needs.
- Attend general hospital orientation followed by a unit-specific day.
