Administrative Leadership
A) Functions as the administrative person on duty, under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor on call during weekends, and holidays.
B) Supervises direct care staff by serving as a role model,
C) Making shift assignments based on capability of staff and delegating only those nursing actions which are legal and safe for other personnel to perform.
D) Provides guidance and technical assistance whenever nursing care concerns arise.
Charge Nurse and Clinical Responsibilities
A) Serves as a treatment team leader for residents on assigned unit.
B) Utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care; produces a written nursing assessment with recommendations for nursing interventions to be included in the treatment plan.
C) Makes frequent rounds on all patients on the team during each shift to ensure that physician's orders are carried out, nursing care plans are implemented, and procedures are done in accordance with hospital policy and acceptable standards of care.
D) Assists in maintaining effective quality improvement activities.
E) Performs direct patient care such as insertion and replacement of intravenous feeding tubes and tracheotomy tubes and administers intravenous therapy and blood transfusions

Considerable knowledge of professional nursing principles and practices; medication indications, actions, reactions and interactions; infection control; considerable skills in application of professional nursing techniques and devices used in a wide range of procedures; demonstrated ability to apply the principles, practices and procedures of professional nursing, to recognize potential patient problems, to make nursing assessments, to observe, record and evaluate patients' response to treatment, to communicate effectively with others orally and in writing
Additional Considerations
Experience in nursing at the professional level coupled with experience in medical/surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing, rehabilitative nursing and or nursing care of the mentally retarded.
