South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Registrar/Director of Records and Registration to lead and innovate in student records management and academic policies. This key leadership role ensures the integrity, accuracy, and security of student records while enhancing the registration experience through strategic planning, technology, and service excellence. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota. This position is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

The Registrar's Office, also referred to as Records and Registration, is the guardian for official institutional academic records. The office provides a variety of services and information to students, advisors, faculty and academic units in support of students achieving academic goals.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead and manage the Registrar's Office functions, including transcripts, scheduling, transfer evaluation, degree audits, and student records.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to academic and student affairs leadership, aligning office initiatives with university goals.
  • Serve as the university's FERPA official, ensuring compliance and handling related inquiries and resolutions.
  • Oversee data management and system processes within the Registrar's Office and the SDBOR system, including security, code changes, and system upgrades.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree completed by application date;
  • At least three years of experience in student records management or student registration in a higher education setting;
  • Demonstrated experience with student information systems and management of student data;
  • Understanding of FERPA regulations;
  • Ability to interpret and apply academic policies;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills; and
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff across the university.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience supervising staff;
  • Knowledge of trends in higher education and best practices in student records and registration; and
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvements and technology implementation.
